A while ago I read a very good book called The Poison Wood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver and I have to really recommend it! It tells the story of an American family of Missionaries, where the husband and father is the Reverend. He is sent by his church to a little village in Congo I think ( it´s been a while so forgive me my bad memory) and it tells of his life with this tribe and also of his life in his family and his kids and how they react and learn to live in Africa. It is set in the 1960s and is actually very well written and interesting! The names of his daugters are Rachel, Ruthie May, Ada and I cant recall the other name! But, in all, the children are wonderfully described, as well as the story itself is told so well it is as if you were there!!
