Pronounced En-Ko, it's a huge department store down near the harbour, the central station and Gamla Stan, very famous. Can any Stockholmers here give her the name of the nearest tunnelbana stop?

Closest T-bane stop is T-Centralen, walk out the exit saying Sergels Torg.

I would check out the department store PUB at Hötorget also. It´s the same T-bane stop as in my post above.

I'm writing this down so Micke can lead me there. I really hope we have enough time to do it all. We are only going to be there four hours on a layover from Skåne back up to Kiruna. I keep trying to convince Micke that we need to spend a weekend down in Stockholm, but or some reason it never happens.

If you do ever week-end in STockholm and don't want to go the hostel route, I can recommend a great hotel right on Drottninggatan and during the week-end it's only about 700 SEK a night, which is great for Stockholm prices, AND the breakfast buffet in the morning is killer!
It's called the Queens Hotel, the rooms are very comfortable and it's convenient to the whole of central Stockholm. That price doesn't include a toilet or shower in the room, but still it's a very good price.

The Hötorget stop is actually closer to PUB.
Carrie, if you only have a 4 hour layover I am afraid you are right in assuming you won't have much time to do anything. The airport is outside of the city. But the quickest way to get into the city is the ArlandaExpress. It is 20 minutes each way and is 180 for each person.

Yeah, we are planning on taking the Arlanda Express. We have a six hour layover, so figured we would have about four hours to actually spend in the city. We've done this trip a couple of times and find that it is enjoyable, though a little stressful when we know we have to get back to the airport. We were planning on going during our 8 hour layover in Stockholm this summer, but after being awake for 36 hours we decided to skip it.
Carolyn, thanks for the hotel advice! I took note of it so that if we ever get to do a weekend I'll have the info. At the moment we aren't doing too much fun stuff since we have a wedding to pay for in May.

Okay, so 6 hours total then! Whew! That should give you plenty of time! Didn't realize you had already allowed for travel time.

Arlanda Express stops at Centralstationen at Vasagatan. From there you can walk to Hötorget and PUB, not that far to walk to NK either. Centralstationen and subway stop T-Centralen is connected with underground walkways so there´s no need to take the subway if you are going to shop downtown.

I was downtown Stockholm yesterday to buy a new candy thermometer, because I accidentally dropped mine on the floor so it broke. And ... because of the cooking show on Mondays on TV1 "Mat", you know with Tina (she was making candy in that show), there are NO candy thermometers to be found anywhere. :-( This isn´t the first time it has happened after that show.

Maybe you should write to her and explain that she needs to let the suppliers know ahead of time what she's going to be preparing, so they can stock their shelves for the after-Tina-show rush!
