I have this craving for steak for the first time since I moved here. *laugh* Sadly I have no idea what type of beef would be the nicest grilled. I read in the beef thread that oxfile was feliet mignon but am wondering what other cuts of beef are nice on a bbq or broiled?

My husband suggests that an entrecote might be what you are looking for. However, since I believe you live near Stockholm, you CAN go to a butcher and request a special cut of meat, so you could get your T-bone or porterhouse if you wanted. You may have to pay quite a bit for this, but it would satisfy your cravings. Most basic American cookbooks have a picture in there of a cow and where the cuts come from and what they look like, so you could take your cookbook too.

We usually grill rostbiff (cut into steaks) or ryggbiff. Both turn out quite well, though not quite what we are used to as a steak. They also are quite nice fried on our grill pan.

I've learned that even if you get the exact cut you want, the steak will still not taste quite the way you expect it to, because cattle are fed differently in Europe than in America, and consequently the beef tastes slightly different as well.

I remember a discussion going on elsewhere once about why the beef didn't taste "as good" here as back in the States, and the funny thought popped into my head that maybe what some people were missing was the taste of antibiotics and growth hormones found in some American cattle? Wouldn't that be truly disgusting? Still, I think the major difference is that in the States, they tend to be corn fed to fatten them and I'm sure that changes the taste.
