Hey ya'll, I recently got slapped with a 40% customs tax on an order from the US. Has anyone ordered items from England? Does customs take the same amount from an EU country? I WANT some stuff!!!

No Customs on stuff from one EU country to another. What are you going to order? What did you get that was worth 40%? I hope it was good.

LOL I wouldn't say 'worth it'. It was beading stuff. I wrote to the company first and asked if this would happen and they assured me that it wouldn't. NOW I know that if the order is over 200 sek it will. Thanks for the info.

We never paid tax when we baught a bouncer from the U.S. on ebay. Since you can't get the ones that vibrate in Sweden or Europe for some weird reason . But our 2 1/2 month old son loves it and our 16 month old is jealous of it . Maybe when you buy it from an individual you don't pay tax .

Maybe because when you buy on ebay, it's usually from a private individual and not from a company, who will have their company name and/or logo or something printed on the box? I think you tend to run into real problems with Tullverket can see that it's been ordered from a company outside the EU.

I've ordered 3 items on Ebay to be sent to Sweden. I was never asked to pay tullverket extra, probably because as others mentioned the items were from private people. Between Anders and I we have also ordered from companies both in the US, Canada, and UK. We never paid if the item was from the UK, because we had already been charged a VAT. Every 4th (or so) time we were charged from N. America though. I think it depends on what the value of the item is. If it has Amazon.com (as in our case) as the return address then that is a scream for tullverket to charge you, and they did.

I've used www.jillybeads.co.uk loads of times (not while living in Sweden though) and they are really good, despatch stuff quickly and if there are any problems, they sort them out.

I'm definitely going to have to find a place for my beading stuff in Europe. My sister mailed some of the stuff I had sent to her and the shipping is outrageous too. I can't win. Hey, Amazon has a UK site. Does anyone know if the prices are about the same?

The problems with the amazon.uk site, as I found it, is that unless you have a credit or debit card issued by a Swedish bank, they will not let you purchase from them. They will direct you to amazon.com, which means you're back having to pay the 25% customs and the international mail charges. I tried with my US debit card and even ordering the package shipped to me at a different address, they said, "sorry, can't do it."

Hi Pam,
I'll be visiting Sweden on December 25 and leaving January 6. If there is anything I can bring for you or whatever, please let me know. I have plenty of things I'm bringing for other people and it's really no problem.

So Pam, did you ever find a European bead source? That Jilly Beads place that Lisa mentioned looks to have reasonable pricing.

I haven't found what I need yet. I did check out JillyBeads and they do have reasonable prices don't have many of the things I need. I ordered a bottle of essential oil and a necklace from a place in England about three weeks ago and haven't received anything yet. Today I got some oils from home. I had them shipped to my sister and she sent them to me. Something in the package was broken. Mats was telling me about it on the phone while I was at work and he sounded like he had whooping cough. hahaha I told him the oils are beneficial. I never told him they all smell good! The post office in Sweden had double wrapped it in plastic. I haven't had the heart to look yet....it's out on the balcony. I'm going to HAVE to find a good, reasonably priced, distributor in Sweden.

Yeah, I was just coming back here to let you know they don't such a great selection. But wow are their prices great! Shipping is really cheap as well! I just placed a modest order of 5 or 6 packages of beads and for shipping and Vat I paid right at 100sek. So much better than Panduro!
