My "coffee lady" that ran the little shop where we always bought our coffee would only roast small amounts of beans at one time and what was left unsold after 3 days, she would throw out. I even knew her to refuse to sell us something on the third day and tell us to come back when the new roasting was finished. Maybe that's a bit excessive, and if things are kept in those vacuum packs with the seals unbroken, she said they can stay fresher longer.
My mother always used to keep more than a few days of coffee stored in the freezer, but others will tell you that doesn't make a difference.
And if you love the Kenya, you should try the Skåne roast Zoegas before you bring back too much coffee (kind of like coals to Newcastle here in Sweden). Just remember, for six regular cups of water, use three slightly rounded coffee measures of the coffee. You may want it stronger or weaker, but that's a personal preference of course. And make sure you run the tap for awhile before you get your water, so it gets nice and cold and fresh.
Have a good trip, when will you be back?

I didn't know about the caffeine either. So if the coffee is lighter, it has more caffeine then? Is this correct?
Sweet Audrey have a great time in the U.S. I'm sure you will see no shortage of Thanksgiving and Christmas decorations everywhere. You're coming back to Sweden, right? This is a trip not a move correct?

Another question I forgot to ask, I really like Kenya roast coffee, is there a brand that sells it packaged, or should one buy the beans and grind oneself?

Thanks Carolyn for the info Thanks for the best wishes Sabeine And yes, I'm coming back! I leave Monday and then Johan joins me on Dec. 14th. We both come back on the 7th of January. I am soo looking forward to being with my family. It's tough without them. We will stay with my parents. I bought about 2kg of coffee beans to bring back as I've never seen Kenya Roast here. I plan on storing them in the freezer. Johan says that that is the best coffee he has ever tasted too. So what the hey, I figured, so I bought it. It should last in the vacuum packs for a few months well. We have our little evening coffee or teas so it will go down well By the way, I'd be interested in whether they have Kenya roast here in Sweden....

I'll check on the Kenya roast here tomorrow when I'm shopping. I know that recently, Zoegas has introduced at least 2 different new coffees, and we haven't tried either. Currently, they're on sale here as well for 19,90 for a 500-gram packet, killer deal.
Yes, the lighter the coffee bean or grounds are in color, the MORE caffeine it has. I always thought it was the other way around, those black-roasted beans would have more caffeine, but no, that only affects the flavor. I guess maybe caffeine can roast out kind of the way alcohol evaporates when you cook with wine?
