So, what's everybody doing for the Jul season? Got any interesting trips planned, either to the Grand Canaries or back to the States? Stateside visitors coming to you this year? Ignoring the whole thing? Planning on just staying drunk from Jul afton till the New Year?
We've just heard our daughter, Karin, is not going to make it home for the holidays, her first Christmas away from Sweden and family! She's been working in London since September and the manager of the shop she's working in took a promotion to a new boutique and has asked Karin to go along with her and she doesn't start her new job until just before Christmas. In the retail trade, it does not go well when you ask for the busiest time of the year off, especially in a new position. I told her we understand, given that she might be finding herself in a great career opportunity, so I'm busy sorting out all the gifts for her and preparing a huge box to be sent to her for her holiday.
Karl will be with us on Julafton, as has been the case since Anders and his ex divorced, and then he'll go with his mother to her parents on Juldag. Anders will cook the traditional stuff and I'll toss in some American stuff as well.
I imagine we will spend Juldag in our jammies watching movies and eating left-overs.

I'll spend the weekend before Christmas preparing all the Christmas cookies. I bake in the neighborhood of 50 dozen so it's quite a project.
I'll celebrate December 23 with my family. I'll be flying out of O'Hare Airport in Chicago at 4:00 p.m. Christmas Eve, bound for Gothenburg. I arrive in Amsterdam at 7:00 a.m. Christmas morning and have a 7 hour layover.
I'm really excited to spend my first Christmas in Sweden but a little sad because it's also the first time I've been away from home on Christmas. Per is learning to make me turkey so it will feel a little more like home. His daughter and parents will be there the first few days so it will still be a nice family gathering.
My flight leaves January 6 and I'll come home and mail my application off for residency!
