Okay, I know that DVDs from the States won't normally play on DVD players you purchase in Sweden, but I have also heard about "region free" players. When we bought ours at Siba and talked to the guy there, he told us that technically, they can't sell a region free DVD player here, so it would only play Region II (Europe), BUT that it was a matter of a simple adjustment once you got the player to make it Region free. Does anybody know anything at ALL about this? Remember, we are technologically challenged. The reason I'm asking is that I just got word that the first whole season of "Northern Exposure" is being released on DVD in May and I want it, but it's only available in US region format. I WANT THIS DVD. Any suggestions?

I'll show Anders this posting when he comes home. We have a region free DVD player. I can ask him where he bought it. He has also found some DVD's that you asked for before (4 weddings, Godfather etc...)

Woo hoo, for the movies. I even got Anders the Elder to watch "Notting Hill" the other week without any rude comments at the mushy parts, but he was in a particularly mellow mood.

What ?!? They can't sell region-free DVD players here ? That's weird, cause I got our at OnOff and it's region-free ! ;D I need to go check the brand though if anyone's interested...

Yeah ya can. ;D
I've heard it from Siba, OnOff, all of those. All the DVD players are "region free." But you have to pay a little extra. Not much, I can't remember the exact price, but not much. When you buy the DVD player you have to let them know you want it to be region free. So you pay a little extra and the "unlock" it for you.
They've told me they can do it with almost every DVD player.

Okay, so essentially we need to take our DVD player and trot back to Siba, because some bugger at On/Off told us wrong. Figures. We're still trying to figure out how to get it to dial in and conform with the TV so we can record. Those instruction manuals aren't worth crap. If it wasn't for the fact that we DO use it to play DVDs and my old tapes from the States, I'd be really pissed off. Oh well, you get to a point where technology starts moving too fast for you, I guess, and then you have to wing it.
