It has been pretty quiet here lately. What is everyone up to? Anyone going on vacation, or taking some time off? I'm going to school by distance. I am taking Swedish and Math. I'm working part time at a clothing store on the weekends. Last summer they had work for me all summer full time, but this year Lindex has been having some financial problems and they are cutting hours significantly. I still have my weekends, but picking up extra hours during the week has been difficult. I knew this before summer started so I signed up for summer school. It gives me something to do, and futhers my education. It has been too long since I studied Math. When I went to college we took Math the first year as part of the basic requirements and then the other three years we focused on our majors/minors. As you can guess mine was not Math. So I'm home alone a lot this summer studying by distance. It is proving harder than I expected. One really has to set aside "X" amount of hours each day for each subject no exceptions. That can prove to be hard especially when my friends have vacation now and they call me to go and and do something with them. So is anyone going anything fun this summer? I can live vicariously through you if you are.

Sabeine; Remember I am a math teacher, if you need help. We are hanging around Skåne now, especially with the less than stellar weather. I am also supposed to be writing a new math course for fall. Maybe I will begin some day soon. I went for three days with my styvdotter to London in June. I am looking forward to Simon & Garfunkle later this month with Carolyn and Gunilla. Carolyn is going to stay here for a day or so. Skåne and Bosse will never be the same. If we play our cards right maybe the Cake Guru can tear herself away from the oven for a little while. Other than that......just doing it day by day.

Debbie, the concert sounds like fun. About Math, I might ask a few questions here. I have real problems with word problems. I had this problem when they were in English, and now since they are in Swedish it seems even more difficult. I will say that I have much more patience for Math now than I did when I was in college over 10 years ago. Lizardek, where are you going in the States? The weather here in Stockholm is not good it looks like it will rain again in a couple of hours. I've read that this summer should not be very warm. Last summer was really nice even hot some days and like this throughout Europe. I think someone said that it tends to be every other year here that the summers are nice. Is this true? I guess if the weather is crummy it makes me stay in and study more, so I guess it is a blessing of sorts where my studies are concerned.

This is kind of reminding me of the first summer I was here, 2000, where the summer was pretty rainy as well. A great year for kantereller, but a dud for doing a whole lot outdoors.
I've been playing with my pelargoniums (nearing 140 now), working on getting Sophie housebroken and leash-trained and today, after yesterday's trip to Stockholm, kind of kicking back (plus working on the 100 unrooted sticklingar I got from my California friend, trying to get them into pots and the right conditions to root). Good thing we didn't meet last night, Sabeine, I was kind of buzzed by 7 p.m.
And then, as debbie mentioned, I'm heading down to Copenhagen in a few weeks for Simon and Garfunkel and then go terrorize meet her husband and see Kristianstad.

The weather down here in Lund SUCKS! We've had the worst weather in all Sweden for June and July according to the newspaper. Half the sunshine hours as Gothenburg. sigh Sabeine, I'll mostly be in Michigan, and one weekend in Oregon as well, getting together with my old gang of girfriends from junior high in The Netherlands I can't wait!!

It has been terrible weather here in Stockholm as well. Nearly every day for weeks has been rain or clouds. Once in awhile the sun will peek through but then an hour or so later it is overcast again. I was told that summer all over Sweden is supposed to be pretty dreary. I hope this is not true, but we are already halfway through now and so far I don't see signs of hope. Maybe we will have a late summer though, that would be wonderful.

We just came back from being in the States for a month. We were there two years ago so it was nice. Perfect timing with the weather!
We took the kids whale watching, found sand dollars in the water, and went shopping, shopping and more shopping.
I forgot to get my hot fudge, onion vidalia dressing, milano cookies, and more gatorade for the kids (allergies, they can drink water, coke, powerade and gatorade.)
My parents have a pool so the kids learned how to swim. They swam virtually everyday rain or shine! Yes it did rain. The kids got to experience a real thunderstorm, you know the kind that roll in in just 15 minutes and are LOUD! So while their cousins were scared, mine were excited!
We went to Salemn, Ma, the Boston Aquarium and sailing in my parents sunfish.
We've only been home for four days and I already miss the weather!

I've just been cleaning and packing so I can hopefully be ready to completely move by November 16. I'm also planning a visit in September so I can take a lot of things out there and also so I can sign up for my personnumber and everything. Per thinks that November 1 is a critical date for me but I'm not exactly sure why. Does anyone have any ideas?

November 1st is All Saints Day, but other than that, I can't think of anything that would make it special.

Maybe he had planned a special "question" to ask you? Do you think this is possible?

Nice try Sabeine! I think it had to do with signing up for SFI classes or taxes or something like that.

Maybe after that date, you can't get into SFI until spring, because he doesn't get any tax break for having you as a dependent or anything like that.

Carolyn is probably right about SFI classes. They start early in the year and December, much like the summer here, is no time to get anything official taken care of.
