It's roll call again. We have some newcomers so I thought it would be fun to say where we are from, what part of Sweden we live and how long we have been here.
I'll start.
I'm from San Diego, CA. Live in Stockholm. Been here 4 years and two months.
Next?.....

Born in Boise, Idaho, lived all over the states and moved here to beautiful Örebro from New Mexico in 2000. Went back to the STates for a supposedly quickie contract job which ended up taking 18 months, so my husband joined me over there, and we got back here last April 2003, so I've been a Swedish resident since 2000, but only present in the country for about two and a half years total.

Born and raised in the New York City suburbs of New Jersey (meaning practically everyone who lived there commuted into the city for work every day). And lived there (moved once within the area) before moving to here.
I live in Stockholm.
I've been here for 1 year, 4 months and 14 days ;D

Well, I'm Canadian on my mothers side! Actually, a direct descendant of Jaques Cartier! Don't you feel honored now?! ;D Also another Canadian relative (my great Uncle), Light heavy weight boxing Champion in the 40's(?) - Jack Delaney. His real name was Olivie Chapdelaine, but the Irish radio announcers couldn't pronouce his name so they called him Chapdelaine. On the radio the irish public heard Jack Delaney - hence the Irishman really wasn't Irish, but Canadian! But I know I've never told those stories before, so you must be psychic. How much do you take for a reading?

I am from Chicago area originally...with a short stint in Minnesapolis when I started teaching in the 70s. (that's 19- seventies!)
Anyhow, I spent the last 15 years before I moved teaching in the northern suburbs of Chicago.
I have been in Kristianstad 3 years 8 months, and 28 days!
I will never live anyplace else!

Brandy, I don't know why I thought you might be Canadian. I think maybe in a posting a while back you wrote something about Canada. I only WISH I was psychic. Natooke, My step-mom is from Edmonton! Small world. She was born there then moved to Hamilton, then Calgary where she lived for many years. Her and her former husband then moved to the US and lived there for some years before they divorced. He moved back to Canada and she stayed in California. 14 years ago she met my Dad and they were "smitten". I am really lucky to have a nice stepmother it could have turned out so ugly, you know?

No, unfortunately I don't Natooke. My grandmother didn't speak English until she went to school at age five, attended school until age eight when she started working. She taught herself to read and write in English. As there were often rifts between the Irish immigrants and the French Canadians, my grandmother wanted her children to speak English, to show that they were as good as the other immigrants. She soon forgot most of her own native tongue. Only my eldest Aunt speaks some French. My mom understands very little.
When my Grandmother at age 92 had a minor stroke, she woke up only speaking French - for two straight hours. As she had forgotten most of her French over the years, none of us had ever even heard her speaking French before. We were quite nervous that we would need an interpreter to speak with our beloved matriarch. Luckily, she reverted back to English and doesn't even remember speaking French for those two hours. She remembers the two hours though, and wondered why noone was talking to her. She passed away at 98.
Another fun note about "Jack Delaney" - my great grandmother didn't want her son involved in such a barbaric, low class, IRISH sport. (Her words.) She refused to let him box. He did it behind her back, and he was very thankful when the Irish radio announcers messed up his name. He didn't have to lie, just not tell the whole story. She never asked, and noone ever told her that he was Jack Delaney. Then the mob kidnapped his wife and children and told him to take a dive in his final fight. He did. They were safely returned.
