It's called tatting in English and she gave you a tatting shuttle. There is also a form called needle tatting. Both Sandy and I tat, and Sandy taught Marie a year or so ago. I love doing it because even if you're using two shuttles or a ball and shuttle, it's very compact and if you have the pattern memorized, you can fit it in your pocket and take it out for a spare few moments wherever you are.

Thank you for resonding so fast I thought it was an art that was slowly fading away ... I took my MIL's book home last night just so I could read a little about the history behind it ;D It is truly alot of work and the tatting she gave me I hold near and dear. My MIL has a loom and our house has some really awesome scatterd rugs from her work ;D

I think Sandy may be learning weaving as well, and I hope to do so. I bought a book in Swedish on weaving on eBay from a lady in Oslo, who shipped the book to Sandy to avoid the overseas charges for me.

Ooops... guess that I don't spend enough time here! Yep, I taught Marie to tat and I have some pretty decent teaching materials. I taught a class through a yarn store in California (a couple of lives ago ) once. It is a lot of work, but so beautiful! I promised to bring some to show Naomi this weekend. Nothing yet on the weaving. A good friend here has promised to teach me how, but we haven't gotten around to it, yet. I want to make some rugs for my living room to match the new sofa and the new curtains I made. Sandy
