K... Carolyn made me do this.. I've been lurking on Amerikanska for like three or four years and here since I wrote to her once and said.. wow, kewl post... and she said Go to Positively Sweden, so I've been lurking here a bit too*G* I'm NOT a joiner... sigh... but I enjoy some of the topics here and especially the recipe columns on both sites.

Two years ago today I was in Ojai California. I had received my permit Dec. 19, but needed a month to exit.. had one of those give a month's notice jobs and guest houses.... got here Jan. 19, 2001... to marry my cyberguy of wow, guess it was four years then... we had met the year before and then did the transatlantic thingy a couple of times, got engaged and decided to marry March 3.. which we did...

I started SFI March 5... enjoyed school till Sept. 11 when I realized I was the only non-arab immigrant there at the time and promptly upscaled my job search... became a substitute teacher Oct. 17 with a month to month waiting for the sick teacher to come back right through June and then started in August with another school here, but we KNOW this gal is out for the count till June, so it was a fast job, not hourly, and is... In fall I start teaching for the new English school we will open in August... a branch of the English International School Söder in Stockholm if anyone knows of it.

Let's see, there have been three funerals and a wedding.. I think it's colder than a witch's hmmmm.... but I'm used to it now ... love the darkness when you don't have to get up.. but unfortunately vacation is over!!
I was a journalist for MANY years so want to be totally apolitical now... nuf said*S*

I know, when Les first set up this site, we all fell in love with the smileys. I especially like the ones that do something!

At least from the photo, I can see why you fit in so well now! Another blonde into the pot. Maybe I should invest in a few boxes of Ms. Clairol before I leave the States, even though I'm probably actually more Swedish than you (mom was the daughter of swedish immigrants. She had nearly black hair, not one stinking blonde on that whole side of the family).

LOL.. I've been lurking since day one Nancy.. Hagaby is north of the city.. hang a left at Swampen and then a right before or after the tracks... only way in or out now and I live on the OTHER side of the tracks LOL... nice to meet you.. Whatcha taking for courses??

Sorry it took me so long to respond ( I spend entirely too much of my life saying this, time to change something).
Lessee, I'm taking Swedish A, Samhällskunskap A, Geografi, Datakunskap och Naturkunskap. And right now the workload is a little much, amazing how much longer it all takes in Swedish.
Carolyn has posted about having an Örebro fika after she gets back. I'm planning on being around for that. Will you be joining in?

hey Carolyn,
I am moving to Nykoping in July. Going to start SFI in August as well and see how it goes. I have been a substitute teacher here in the states for 1.5 years and was going into the Teacher Ed program when we decided to move to Sweden. Teaching is still my goal though. I also hope to get on as a Sub and then hopefully get something perm as well. I am thinking a year of SFI if it goes well then try to get a job next year when the school season starts back up. It's always encouraging to read where others have gotten jobs as well. ;D

Sounds like a reasonable plan, at least a year to become relatively fluent in Swedish, and then look for work. I'll hold my thumbs for you.
