Hello all! I met my husband, who is from Ă–stersund, in June of 2001. My sister met him online in a Christian chat room and introduced us. Neither one of us owned a computer ourselves but somehow we managed to beg, borrow or steal computer time from friends and relatives and now we have been married for a year and a half. We have a beautiful 4 month old baby boy together. He has a son in Sweden who is 10 and I have a 3 year old son. His son and sister visited last year around this time for 2 months. We are looking forward to going to Sweden some time this next spring for a few weeks. It will be the first time that I have been and I am looking forward to meeting his friends and family. I am hoping to learn some Swedish before then. My husband misses Sweden very much and I am looking for ways to make him feel more at home. I am would love to have recipes and any other suggestions anyone may have!

I'll see if my husband can come up with a few old style Swedish recipes. Unfortunately, in CO, it's going to be hard to come up with falu-korv and some other stuff, but there ARE a few on-line stores that carry Swedish goodies, cheeses and sausages. I'll see if I can dig a few up for you. I know one is in Chicago and it wasn't TOO outrageous.

There is a store in Estes Park that has some very limited Swedish food and we go there and get things every once in a while but I would love to have the site address for some of the stores online. Thanks!! My husband really misses Swedish food.

Is there a SWEA club near you in CO?
SWEA is Swedish Womens Educational Association. Most larger cities have a chapter. The women involved in it are usually from Sweden or first generation Swedish in the US. The requirement for membership is that one should be able to speak Swedish and have a connection to Sweden, i.e married to a Swede, relatives from Sweden, born in Sweden etc... These women would most likely be able to help you with recipes, the language, and could probably point you in the direction of stores that carry Swedish foods.

I hope you find what you are looking for. There is a chapter of SWEA in Denver. The SWEA women are so helpful, they are very happy if one shows an interest in Swedish culture. denver@swea.org is their email address. The international website is www.swea.org. They have chapters ranging from Hong Kong to Hawaii, they truly are international. They will certainly have a connection to language schools, Swedish cooking groups, places to buy Swedish foods from, or just a good group of Swedish people that your husband could be a part of.
