Easy eat #2 "Calzone"
Well swedes make a version called piroge... empanadas to spanish speakers, pasties to the welsh etc....
great for taking on picnics..freezing....
You can make big ones and have it as a inbaked pizza..or make many small ones such a s curry puffs..fantastic for left overs..
This is the simplest, least ingredient and almost no fail recipe yet.....fast to make and fast to cook...
here goes
to make one large or 2 smaller calzones (2 x 15cm rounds)....
1 .75 dl of plain flour
2 tablspoons of olive oil ( i dont know how well it works with other oils)
pinch of salt,
cold water.. *and a beaten egg for brushing(optional)
Preheat oven 220 degrees..
mix and work flour, salt and oil in a bowl until mix becomes crumbly.. add a little water at a time until it becomes a non sticky dough and pulls away from bowl..
Turn onto lightly floured board and roll out to 1 cm thickness for big single one.. 1/2 cm for more..If more than one than cut out circles to sizes you want..or squares if you prefer for triangle shapes..
Spoon in leftovers, curry mix, pizza filling or whatever
in one half of pastry.. brush a little water around edge of dough to help seal it- fold over encasing filling--You now have a half moon shape if round was chosen or triangle if square shape- push edges together and press with edge of fork to further seal and make a pretty pattern... brush calzone with beaten egg
Bake in a hot oven at 220 degrees for 12 mins or till golden. Cool on wire rack or eat when you are ready!!
Bon appetite!
