Anybody out there recommend an insurance company that covers your dog in Sweden?

Carolyn, You'd better be sitting down before reading it! The one recommended by the Svenska Kennelklubben (and by many vets here) is AGRIA. But as you see, it's svin dyrt! The site is quite informative, though, and there is a forum there as well.

So do you have insurance on Lambi? If not, have you had to take her for many vet visits? Overall, at least a brief look (and not reading all the blasted small print), the insurance would run about 1400 a year.

No we don't have insurance on Lambi.
She has been to the vet twice since I've been in Sweden. Both times were to have her teeth scaled (1000SEK each time).
What you also have to remember is that you have an excess (självrisk) that you pay and that can sometimes be quite steep. We met a person here who's young poodle had broken it's leg. Their excess was 5,000SEK! Mind you the operation and treatment amounted to 26,000SEK.
Back home I had pet insurance for my cats, but here I never really thought about it - I guess because it wasn't my dog.

We have Agria for our two cats. It is expensive for the insurance here but I had insurance on my (then) one cat back in the US and it wasn't cheap there either.
Since one of our cats has kidney problems the insurance has paid off for us in keeping our vet bills relatively low.
The difficulty with insurance is it is a gamble. Some may never really need, it others will. You won't know until it happens and sometimes then it's too late if your pet is not insured.

Personally, I don't think that 121 SEK a month is all that expensive for insurance, considering how much a purebred dog costs over here anyway and considering how vet charges are going up all over!

I don't think that it's high either. We pay more than that since we have two pets insured and one has kidney problems.
We have been pleased with Agria.
