For those of you who haven't done a whole lot of cooking before coming to Sweden, I thought I would share a couple tips regarding using onions, since I was hacking up a few of them today.
First, did you know that if you put an unpeeled onion in warm water for a few minutes before attempting to take the skin off, it will come off much easier? You won't have that brittle outer skin that's so hard to get rid of.
Second, if you want to chop the onion, but have trouble because it keeps separating on you into those annoying chunks when you're trying to dice it nicely, cut the onion in half and do NOT cut off the root end (those little hairy looking things) then make your cuts in the onion almost to the root and start chopping!

i was always told that if you run the onion and your knife under cold water first then you won't cry while cutting it. i always do and have yet to cry from it.
