I wasn't looking for it, doubt I drank it more than 6 times a year in the States, but while I was shopping at Lucullus (Vivo) this morning and looking for my new soda addiction (Grappo), there it was, small bottles on the top shelf. So if you have a Vivo near you and are dying for a Doctor, check it out.

Yeah I've been lucky to always have a semi-steady supply of it, 'cause I drink it like water. It's good to have another source tho, because sometimes I drink my local shop dry! I can't help it, I grew up in Texas and lived for a while in the town it was invented in.
It's usually in the coolers at ICA, and in cans in kiosks in our town. It's even cheaper than most other sodas in ICA, so I'm happy as a clam. Now, if only they'd buy more than 12 in a week...

Vember, why don't you ask your store manager to buy you in more? If you to tell him/her you'd buy more, I'm sure they would get it for you.

That's a good idea, except soda isn't all that great for my health, and I'm a lazy one I've considered doing that for a few things I know I'd buy regularly. My sambo is a bit timid and seems to think requesting goods would be a sin. I'm still not 100% comfortable with my language skills and so shy away from complex conversations with strangers. I dun wanna be the ugly American who knows "with a word she can get what she came for." As for Dr. Pepper, there's only so much shelf space, and if they can charge more for the other drinks, they're probably happy when I'm forced to buy some other soda.

I say speak up. There is nothing wrong with asking them to buy in more of the items that you buy often. They are after all making money on it. This wouldn't make you look like an ugly American. In my experience I have most often received better service when I speak English than if I speak in Swedish. I should mention that how one requests something matters, if one is too forward it can be off-putting, not that I think you would be this way. I speak Swedish now after 4+ years here but in the beginning it was hard and I had to ask in English. I honestly think that I received better service then than I do now. This could be because people might have assumed that I was a tourist whereas now if I speak Swedish they must realize that I live here. I'll say again, go for it. Ask in English if that's more comfortable for you. You really have nothing to lose by doing it. Carolyn also wrote once on this site about the library system here (in regards to ordering things). That one can order books to the library if there is an interest. If there is a book that your library doesn't have then they will either get it from another library here in Sweden or flat out order it. Then you can check out the book. Maybe Carolyn can explain this better than I can.

I should add that the post I wrote above about the library system has nothing to do with ordering items from a grocery store, I only wrote it to show that other things here can be ordered if there is an interest. I didn't know this when I first moved here and instead I spent a small fortune on international shipping ordering books from Amazon.com (UK site) only to find out that my local library here could have ordered it for me. I could have requested the order from my library, waited a few weeks, then checked out the book, and I wouldn't have paid a thing.
Hopefully Carolyn will explain this here. I think when this site gets fully up and running again we will include this as an article.

Thanks Sabeine Yeah I will probably work up the nerve to ask, and take your advice on not being too forward. However, I believe you're in Stockholm, right? Things work a little differently up north - people don't seem to enjoy being forced to speak/understand English. This is just based on things I've heard from people who have lived in the two areas. My Swedish is getting better daily, so before long I can just make my request på svenska As for the library, that's good to know too!
