The thread in the recipe post got me to thinking about rhubarb and how it is grown. I want to grow some this year but how? Do I grow it from seeds or do they sell the plants at a nursery?

You should be able to get a root sectoin at a nursery and it'll be way faster than seeds. it's kind of a tuber thingie and it's sooooooo darned easy to grow. Essentially, (1) dig hole, (2) stick in root bundle, (3) cover with dirt, (4) eat rhubarb! I LOVE those no-fail kind of plants.
OOOpppps, forgot to add that the root and leaves of the rhubarb are poisonous, only eat the stalk!

Did NOT see rhubarb saft on our Konsum shelves. Maybe it's a regional taste? Sounds great to me.
Also stewed rhubarb with sugar and cream, mmmmm. Or do that and then put a crump topping on it, bake it in the oven and then serve with vanilla ice cream.
And for those with small children, who may become constipated, both stewed rhubarb and strawberries, which go together extremely well, by the way, are great for giving children when they're kind of bound up.

wanted to report back about my rhubarb! I bought, a couple of weeks ago, from Plantagen a small rhubarb plant and it has already shot up! I haven't even gotten it in the ground yet. I have hesitated because of the cold weather. But think I will finally get everything planted this weekend! Can't wait for rhubarb pie!!

Like I told you, rhubarb, once it gets established, grows so freely and quickly that to kill it, you darned near need to soak it with gasoline and torch it, and even then, I'll bet you it appears again!
Fortunately, Bonnie here seems to get an excess of rhubarb and has promised me some of the overspill, so I'll be a happy person this year.
