My god, does anybody have any idea HOW many varieties of these flowers there are? I used to think they just came in red, pink and white, and occasionally coral. They are GORGEOUS, and something I seem to be very good at growing as well. I have just discovered a new mania, I think.

Wow, what a great site. As soon as I get home, I'm going to be checking out more and working on my collection. At least my darling husband reports that my pelargoner are doing extremely well and full of blossoms, so at least the ones I have will still be there to greet me and not dead little stems like the last time.
Thanks, Mimmi, for the link.

That one is SO beautiful. I'll be glad to have it. I will be back in Sweden on the 22nd September and you will hear from me after that. Tusen tack (and with the spelling of sticklingar as well).

www.newleafnurseries.com/www.pelargoniumsandgeraniums.net/uspelnur.htmlWhy don't you bring some cuttings back from the US? Bring some of the varieties that are hard to come by in Sweden, grow them on, and come spring you have a lot of intresting plants and cuttings to trade on Pelargonsällskapets swap/buy/sell forum. There is a lot of specialist growers in the US.

For anyone who is interested, this month's new issue of Allt om Trädgård has a very good offer on 8 different varieties of pelargoniums, delivered from England. They're a very nice assortment, lots of pretty color, and one can get a real feel for the incredible variety available in this marvelous plant. And they are VERY hard to kill, unless you are a compulsive waterer. ;D

Does anyone know if they are toxic for cats? I have two cats that like to chew on some plants.

Actually, some of the doft ones, you can chew on yourself! Mimmi would probably know better than I, but I've never heard of pelargoniums being poisonous. As a matter of fact, I think some of the doft ones created that scent in their leaves to STOP being chewed on.

If we get to Ö-bro, and you need new homes for some of your pelagoners... let me know I am interested hehe! Do they sell them at COOP? ~Heather My god, does anybody have any idea HOW many varieties of these flowers there are? I used to think they just came in red, pink and white, and occasionally coral. The types of pelargons I collect are usually ordered from specialists. Check out most particularly: www.wexthuset.comwww.brostromshandelstradgard.seBoth of these companies I have ordered from and the quality is very high, the selection quite good and lots of information. One drawback with these two companies is that they generally start the plants growing upon order, which means that it will take about 6-8 weeks until you get the plants you ordered, but their selection is phenomenal. Brostroms especially sends out small plants rather than the more usual sticklingar (cuttings). They're a little more expensive than Wexthuset, but the plants are really wonderful. You can also try www.rockdala.com and www.pelargonhuset.se and if you come to Örebro, you can go out there and they have plants available for immediate sale at Pelargonhuset. If you're looking for more usual types, Coop Forum usually has nice zonal geraniums, your basic garden variety, and often you can find a much nicer and larger assortment at Plantagen. I got a couple of gorgeous stellars and a nice hanging pelargon that was already ready to flower for about 49 SEK each. I suggest if you're really interested too, you can go to www.pelargonsallskapet.com, which is the Swedish Pelargonium Society. They have a marvelous introduction to the types of pelargoniums and a good picture gallery too, showing the hundreds and hundreds of different flowers.

Are there certain varieties of Pelargons that live better inside an apartment? I know that some get very tall, and need more room so maybe they are not good for indoors. I was hoping to start with a few indoor types that are non-toxic for cats. They have to be non-toxic since I have one cat that will chew on some plants occasionally. Also, is there a trick to keep cats from eating my plants? This is driving me crazy. I sometimes spray the one cat that chews with a spray bottle, just one squirt trying to keep her away, but when I am at work or in school it is hard to stop her. The other cat doesn't chew on my plants. Does anyone have a rememdy that I could spray on the plant leaves to keep them away. I have tried some "green soap" diluted with water and I think it hurt my plant (orchid). Also below is a Regal Pelargon that I think is simply beautiful I found it on a website. It is called "Flesh" and they say that it is from South Africa. Wow! Can one find something similar or this kind here in Sweden? www.woottensplants.co.uk/search/search_results_detail.asp?varietyid=3362I hope the link comes up.

I haven't seen that particular regal in Sweden, BUT you can order from Woottons, you know. We may need to talk about placing an order in the spring. Try also looking at some of the regals at www.fibrex.co.uk. I'm probably going to order a few from them next season as well.
