HOw do you feel about IKEA? Do you think they have quality merchandise at low prices?

Hmmm... sometimes I like it, then sometimes not.
It does have lower prices, but some of the stuff is so homogenous. At it seems that nearly everyone shops there here in Sweden. We have bought some things there as well, mainly to save money. I do wish they had more originality with some of there furniture items. The problem is that there aren't many other places in Sweden that I know of, to shop at for the same price. I've tried Mio and others but they are more expensive.

My husband and I enjoy cruising IKEA every now and then and we like waiting for the IKEA catalog to come through the mail every year (kind of a national event), but we don't buy a lot there.
What I mostly dislike is the trendiness and how quickly the stuff becomes dated. I think that most of their furniture is aimed towards those kids just out of university, setting up their first apartment or first home. For instance, this year, everything seems to be in extremely modern design, not something a 53-year-old could get out of without a crane standing by. And often, the colors of their furniture tend to be something one couldn't live with for very long. A hot pink or lime green sofa. How long could you really stand looking at that, day after day?
It IS low-priced, but if you're buying for the long-term, I think it would be better to spend a little more and get something that will be with you for more than a year or two.
That being said, we keep adding on to our set of IKEA "Billy" bookcases.

We bought our kids beds there ... compared to Mio we couldn't pass on the price.
Of course the founders of the company are famous Smålänningar ;D

The one thing I like doing at IKEA is visiting their bargain basement. We bought a piece from a wall system that fitted perfect in the kitchen, it holds our keys, cells, wallets etc … 40 sek. 4 Bamboo blinds for our addition … 100 sek. My BIL purchased some kitchen counters from the showroom … that are used as workspaces in his workshop … I think they paid him to have them removed.

Natooke---I was trying to figure out how your car (BIL) bought something. My mind is being taken over by aliens!
I bought draw shades for my classroom for all the windows for 45 kronor. They were 5 kronor each!

In the Fynd department we found a china cabinet that we were seriously considering buying for 500 kr less than what was on the floor and we didn't have to put it together ourselves!!
