For lack of a better word or knowledge, I have these damned little blackish flies that apparently spring spontaneously from the soil of my house plants. Did I remember perhaps from the old forum somebody saying something about putting matchsticks (unlit or unburned), a couple of them in each potted plant and that would stop these pesky flies?
Normally, I have a live and let live attitude towards most critters, but these keep trying to fly into the corners of my eyes while I'm typing, not to mention drifting across the computer screen, which wrecks my concentration. Any non-poisonous ways to get rid of these suckers?

Mats suggests putting snus in the pots. He SAYS it won't stink but I don't have it in any of my pots!

Maybe it wasn't matches, maybe it was cigarette butts. I know that nicotine is used in spray form as a pesticide, but it's quite poisonous.

They LOVE red wine and saft. Put a little wine or saft in a cup, add a couple of drops of dish liquid (to break the surface tension) and within a few days they'll all have committed suicide (by drowning).

Heck, if I buy red wine, it's going in ME. Let them drink saft! Thanks for the tip, tho.

Guess I'm a little late on this one. Anyway, we had CLOUDS of gnats (blomflugor) last year. And they are all dead now ;D The thing we got was Pyrex-N, figure your local florist would have it. We killed of some tiny spider looking web creating creatures with a såpa-water mix too. I guess it glued the suckers to the plant

I wouldn't mind so much if these guys stayed on the plants, but they insist on trying to fly in my eyes when I'm at the computer. We got rid of one plant that seemed the main source and they have decreased, but I may need to go the poison route after all.
