The new regulations for traveling now include NOT putting any food or beverage inside your checked-in luggage. So what happens to those of us who stock up on certain staples in the States and want to bring them home with us? I'm sure as heck not going to be packing all that chili powder and taco seasoning in my carry-on.
Does anybody get "care" food packages from the States? Do you have them send it regular mail and how long does it take? Airmail is deadly expensive and lots of food items are pretty heavy.

When I get my/our care packages it's usually here by mid Novemember ... this includes our Xmas gifts from the whole family. What my sister does is sends them surface (thats no surprise!) ... abot 6 to 8 weeks give or take The only food request I ask for are seasonings like shake en bake, beef stew, ceasar dressing, extract and good old choc. chips etc. None of our packages have ever been opened by any of the customs on either side... of course everything or anything they send is sealed up in a ziplock bag

I don't know if the new regulations also apply to Canada or not, but I just flew back from Calgary on Saturday with some food in my bags. I had a 2kg bag of chocolate chips, 2kg jar of peanut butter, tons of candy, some spices, and a jumbo box of Life Cereal. Wasn't a problem at all, but maybe the new regulations don't apply in Canada yet.

Well, enough people have also posted on Amerikanska that they brought stuff back without problem, so I'm just going to wing it. The important stuff like chocolate, I can put in my carry-on anyway.

We just got back hours ago. We were 5 people travelling and returned with 10 pieces - mostly food and books - even an experiment kit for my 6 yer old - honestly! They opened two boxes and two suitcases. They were the ones we expected to be opened. Ice skates, three 10 lb powder gatorade, the experiment kit and the very thick books. They retaped the boxes, but cut off the ropes - so they couldn't be used again - even though my husband explained he could get them open. (He's a sailor and used special knots.)
Just remember not to pack any undeveloped film or even your negatives! Remember to remove your nail clippers, etc., from your carry-ons, too.
Good luck everyone!
