I moved from Oregon to Kiruna in Sept. 2001. I think I'm adjusted. Sorta.

I thought I'd wis you all a god Jul before I head off to Skåne tomorrow. I don't expect to have much internet access so you won't be hearing from me for a week (not that I'm known for large quantities of posts).
I took over a box of Christmas cookies to my Swedish friend tonight and am really happy I went to the trouble to do so much baking. Her eyes about popped out of her head and she was so incredibly grateful for all the goodies. It was fun to see. I guess they don't do the whole Christmas cookie exchange thing here.
Anyway, God Jul och Gott Nyt År!

Have a great holiday, Carrie. I love doing the Christmas cookie thing as well, and next year, I'm gonna be prepared for some eye-popping from my Swedes as well, I hope.

God jul och gott nytt år to everybody and their families. If you're in Sweden, you've already had the prezzies and the julskinka and Kalle Anka and are probably still waiting for Karl-Bertil.
We woke up this morning at 4 a.m. and were laying there, talking about Jul, when Anders' sister Ingrid called from Sweden. She had just talked to their other brother, Arne, in Augustralia where it was 8 hours LATER and forgot about the time differences.
I can tell you, it was so nice to hear from home and even nicer after Anders began talking to her to realize that I haven't lost my Swedish and was able to follow along with what was happening in the family.
We have to make a grocery run in a few minutes, then call the kids, who will be home from kyrka, and then Anders will start our julskinka (okay, so it's spiral cut, but Swedish breadcrumb and mustard topped).
Have a wonderful holiday, everybody, and I'll see many of you when we get home soon. Only 2 more months now!!!!!! ;D ;D ;D

I hope everybody had a truly lovely Christmas, with no melancholy or disappointments or family quarrels (story of my long life sometimes).
I unfortunately got some kind of bug right after Christmas dinner, and no, it was NOT Anders' cooking, but I felt pretty lousy for a time. We did get in the car and go for a drive to look at the lights Christmas Eve, but I went to bed soon after and didn't get up until 10:30 this morning and still feel kind of dragged out, but I guess I'll live.
One of the nicest gifts, the lady we share the house with, gave both of us lovely backpacks on wheels, which are cabin sized and hold tons, and are going to be sooooo handy. Plus I got a killer pair of crimson velvet socks with black fur cuffs (hey, I'm a sock person).
The holiday itself was kind of disappointing, because we were all set for this incredible snowstorm and then the winds picked up and blew all the snow right over us to the other side of the mountains, so we're surrounded by snow, but all we got was a few lousy flakes and they didn't even look interested in being here.
Only two more months now, folks, and I'm home free!!!

I got sick last night too! I've been miserable, and I'm just now starting to feel a little better. The bathroom and I have become very acquainted over the last 24 hours. ;D My first Christmas in Sweden was very very nice! I've been a little homesick since Thanksgiving for the first time since I left, but my aunts, uncles, cousins, brother, parents and grandparents got in a line, called me, and everyone talked to me for a few minutes. It was such a precious little moment! tee hee. I hope everyone else had a really nice holiday, and I hope no one else is sick!
