Anders and I have been discussing the possibility that we might have to move from lovely Örebro to another part of Sweden in our quest for jobs. So far, Borås is a possibility, as I have a chance of some interviews there, but definitely no place north of Stockholm and probably not Stockholm, just because of the housing situation and high cost of living there. He likes either Skåne or Småland, because he says there are lots of small businesses especially in Småland and he likes the character of the people down there. Anybody have any suggestions, taking into account livability and most importantly, WORK? ?

I LOVE Skåne ... reminds me of home ;D and Småland people are laid back too ... and the county side is breath taking. www.svenljunga.se/eng.htmlwww.vetlanda.se/engelska.aspIf you don't mind me asking ... What line of bussiness is Anders in? I know that lumber plays a big part in Småland ... but there are many successful small companies down here too.

Anders worked for 23 years in public health, community medicine, basically a researcher-statistician, BUT he doesn't necessarily want to do that anymore, and I don't want him to do that anymore. He was miserable. And he's not a butt-kisser, so he doesn't do well in a bureaucratic system, which unfortunately is a great part of Sweden.
He used to be a welder before he got college educated and we are thinking of possibilities for landscape gardening, a small nursery, something working the land for him.
Me, I'm REALLY flexible and willing to turn my hand to just about anything, even log splitting ;D.

Borås! Borås! That's closer to me! ;D And check Halmstad before you move too. There are all kinds of businesses and industry there. Plus a university. It's a beautiful city but not a huge city and it's on the beach.

Yes, I know, I'd be just around the corner from you and Denise and Marie, and down the block from Sandykins! Not to mention having relatives in Borås and one of my bestest friends, Monik, who lives there (along with Jessica, although we don't see her around much nowadays).
But on the other hand, in Skåne, I'd be close to Cake Guru and CAKE!

Looked at the website www.amv.se. 110 jobs in Borås, 149 in Örebro and 3000+ in Stockholm. That´s how it is unfortunately. Jobs but nowhere to live here in Stockholm and in other parts of the country it´s the opposite. Have you thought about the area around Köping, Kungsör, Arboga, Eskilstuna ? Those towns are pretty close to eachother so it´s possible to commute between them.

There are 3 kind of people in life, those who do, those who watch and those who ask what happened.

Have you thought of Sandviken, near Gävle? Reasonable cost of living, only 2 hours north of Stockholm, making day trips perfect! Closer to your friends in the North and not too far from those in the south turning just north of Stockholm a prime spot for you. Did I make a good argument for something you've totally ruled out, just to make life more difficult?

Varberg! on the west coast! is a small city, and as I understand many artist type people live in the town ;D a good friend of mine lives there ... she blows glass & received her training here in Småland (kindom of glass). Another small city we enjoy is Kalmar ... South eastern coast. Have you 2 thought about Blekinge? Karlshamn or Karlskrona both are smaller cities ... & both are near Skåne & Småland ;D ;D With having a good friend and family in Borås this is another important part ... living life ;D As for welding ... I know this trade is still alive ;D My hubby who isn't a welder by trade ... needs to weld nearly every day on the job ... so Anders when you 2 come out this summer PLEASE don't hesitate to ask questions ... as I assume welding has changed a bit since you've worked last with it ... if you know what I mean like I know what I'm talking about

As much as I would love for you to live closer to me here in Stockholm, (and I'm sure Leslie would too as well) I understand if the high cost of living here is a deterant. There was a posting about Köping. Anders and I looked into moving there about a year ago. It was a lovely town. Not so far away from the big city, but with a train it would have taken an hour commute to get to Stockholm. We started to wonder if the lower rent was worth that. We decided, for us it wasn't worth it. It really was a beautiful town though, maybe some day we could move there. Southern Sweden is certainly a choice. You would also have access to shopping in Denmark, a real plus. Less taxes. (Moms) If you moved to southern Sweden, you'd have to learn to speak Skånska, this really funky language, that some call Swedish. Ha Ha, just kidding everyone! My parents told me that... of course they're from Norrland, where in the old days, they drank coffee from the saucer, instead of from the actual cup. Talk about weird. Thank God my parents know how to drink coffee the normal way from a cup, or mug. One can only imagine how they would have been if they had stayed in Sweden. Them being from Norrland and all... ;D

Well, don't feel too bad, Sabeine, my grandpa drank coffee from a saucer with the sugar cube held between his teeth and he was from Västmanland.
And I guess if Cake Guru can learn skånsk, so can I.
The easy access to Denmark would be a real plus for me. I LOVED Copenhagen.
