i'll only be finished next sept. but then i think i am going on to study in the cancer field.. its a new program they are coming up with that i can be a ' special undernurse' and that course will be 2 years.. you can study in many different fields and only focus on that field.. so i think i will take the cancer one.. i have a meeting in the spring with some people from the hospital and we will discuss what's involved.

Bless your heart, crankody, for specializing. My darling mother died a very slow, drawn out death from cancer and the real blessing around her were the oncologists and their staff who really cared what their patients were going through. People who can do that kind of work have a very dear place in my thoughts.

Crankody, that sounds good, I think that you are going to be a very good nurse and I also have to agree with Carolyn, the patients as well as the family members have benefits from people that are caring and will put their soul into what they are doing, which I am sure that you will do!! Please let us know how your studies go and the best of luck!!

well thank you lady D and carolyn.. my father died of cancer also and many moons ago while living back across the pond i did some private home care for a cancer patient.. it was a neighbour of mine and i didn't know them very well but the old fellow took a liking to me.. anyway he became sick and they didn't tell him what was wrong but he said that whatever it was he wanted to be home.. so she spoke to me and asked if i would take care of him since he wouldn't take meds from anybody else..so i did.. we all had papers to sign stating that if he dies while in my care (something other than cancer) i cannnot be held responsible since i have no formal training.. so we did it and it was a wonderful experience.. i was with him when he died and well it was so wonderful to see him in peace finally.. and since moving here this lady called me and wanted to pay my fare back over because her son had cancer and the family wanted me to take care of him but i was preggo at the time so i couldn't.. and he died now.. i felt so bad.. so learning about this awful thing has always been in the back of my head so now its time to bring it forward.. keep your fingers crossed..

Hey Crankody, just wanted to say that was such a really lovely and touching story!! I can imagine how good that felt for the poor old man to have you around and talk to and help!! I think when he died he felt really like he had peace, since you were there! Im sorry to hear the son died as well and that you couldnt be there to do it again, but Im sure that thanks to this experience you had you are going to make a great nurse, so just do your best at the education, and I am sure you are going to be the bestest nurse, since youve got the experience and youve gotten that from doing something with your heart and soul!!
