I LOVE Maya Angelou and those are words I've lived by for the last ten years. That way, you don't get so disappointed in the end.

Combining this with a comment in another thread about not wasting time, I too am proud to have come to that point! A lady at work showed me who she was, and I believed her. I haven't wasted another precious moment of my time on her!
She actually asked me the day after showing me her true self, "Are you mad at me?" Oh, I thought, so she does understand how rude she was! I replied with a simple no.
All I could think was I'm not wasting a precious moment of my energy on a sour puss.

That is a very astute quote, it is hard to follow all the time though. For instance, it may be easy to see who and how the person is, but not allowing it to affect you is hard to do. Some people (co-workers) you have to grin and bear it, even if some of them are selfish as hell.

Oh yes I agree, I think that is a very good quote, but I also think that what you said was right, it is hard to be nice to everyone and also, some people just dont mix well!!

I agree with you Natooke!!
I have seen with my own eyes this quote in a negative way, people not being who I thought they were...
But, also, people being just as great as I though they were!

I would also hope that I'm not judged by someone else's opinion of my colors. I try to give everyone the benefit of the doubt until I see for myself. My version of the quote is the southern one.....screw me once shame on you, screw me twice shame on me.
