Do you feel confident enough in your Swedish ability to read books/novels in Swedish?
Who are some of your favorite Swedish authors?

I like Henning Mankell. And of course Astrid Lindgren.

I haven't gotten to where I am reading any Swedish authors yet, but what I have done is purchase the Swedish translations of my favorite mystery series (Brother Cadfael by Ellis Peters) and I am reading the Swedish book with the English version by my side. It sure helps with vocabulary, although since they are medieval mysteries, it's gonna be hard to find a use for working words like "leper house" into the conversation over fika.

Lisa Marklund is easy to read. I guess she is usually a thriller/mystery type, but Gömda is based on a true story about a swedish woman who was forced to go into hiding because of her stalker boyfriend. I won't give away anymore but it has an unbelievable ending.

I read so fast in English that it's frustrating to read books in Swedish, it slows me down too much and I can't speed-skim. It's not because my Swedish isn't up to it, it just takes longer. It's no big deal with newspapers, or magazines or websites.
