What's a 38/40 in American sizes? Our conversion charts here seem to be still down.

If you are talking about women's clothing sizes you generally add 30 to the size. So if you are an 8 in the States you would be a 38 in Sweden. 14 would be 44..and so on.
Sorry about the charts, will try to get things up soon. It has been hectic here trying to get ready for the big Thanksgiving party this weekend!

No, to know her is to love her, she's tall, blonde, beautiful, smart, kind, funny, everything one would hope for in a daughter. I just think the last time I was probably a size 8 was when I was 10.

What makes it even more frustrating is knowing that you SHOULD be a size 48. Last time I was in a Swedish shop, I selected a number of pairs of pants all marked size 48. One I could not even get above my knees, one was so large I could have fit Anders in there with me (okay, fun but not practical). I did find a pair that fit finally, but what is this with the manufacturers anyway?

Oh yes I agree!! I hate it when I try on a pair of pants and they are too tight over my thighs, but then too wide in the back!! GRRR....
Yes, I have asked that same questin myself! what is the matter with all these people that make clothes!! do they think we are all the same or what??

I work in a clothing store, and there is not one single pair of pants that we have if you were to take the same size that would fit the same. Many women complain that the pants don't fit in their sizes. A woman that may be a size 40 in one model of pants/jeans could be a 36 in another, or a 42 in another kind. That's normal. That's why when one goes to try on pants they should take several sizes in each model to see which ones fit. The girls at my work all know how this works when we see each other walk into the fitting rooms with 10-15 pairs, and end up buying one pair or none at all.

Another thing I forgot to write, often times a size that you might wear if you were to try on 2 pairs of pants, the same model in the same size, they will not fit the same. A lot of times it is because the pants were sewn at different factories. Pants that may be made in Taiwan, are often times made at several different factories in Taiwan. In the case of Lindex, we have a popular series of jeans that we sell that is Lindex brand. About 6 months ago they changed factories so that if you bought these jeans 6 months ago they were made in Thailand, but now they are made in India. The pants that were sewn in Thailand fit a little differently than the ones from India, even though the model itself has not changed. Customers will come in and complain about how they bought two pairs and how one fits great, but the other does not. I understand how they feel though, cause it's frustrating for me as well.

Thank you for that explanation! Yes I understand what you mean and I will be more careful now and try on different sizes. I think for myself it has to do with two things why going into Lindex or any other clothing store makes me mad and frustrated:
I really hate shopping! I have bad self esteem and even though it has become much much much better, there are things that still make me feel bad about myself....sizes that dont fit like they should is one of those...

Just wanted to put in my 2 cents about Carolyn's Karin... she's a doll! And Karl (that is his name, right??) is just as wonderful! I am very envious!! Most of my step-kids are... well... I'm a Christian, so I'd better leave it there. Sandy

Thanks for your kind comments, Sandy. Yes, I am blessed in my step-kids, I love them as if they were my own children. And yes, it's Karl (Kalle, tho he seems to prefer Karl now).
We had so much fun when he was here this last summer, only sorry Karin didn't make it as well. I think the highlight of my life as a step-mother came one day when he put his arm around me and said, "I'm glad you're my step-mother. I'm glad my father married you." You can't ask for better than that.
