Thanks for the tip. I'm a huge Discovery channel watcher anyway, and a chance for a free trip is a bonus.

Natooke,
We have something on our broadband connection called "Discovery Mix". It appears to be a sample of programs from the various Discovery Channels and Animal planet. I've seen the ads for Nordisk Vecka there so I hope we get some of the programs - a couple of those history ones look really interesting.
And a trip to Iceland sounds GREAT! I think I'll have a go at that. Thankyou for posting those links.

What is this trip? We have Discovery should one watch it and get instructions on the channel or is there a site one can register with? I'd love to win a trip to Iceland.

Sorry to post without reading clearly Natooke's message. I see that she provided a link to find out more information.

Hi Natooke,
Yes we did see quite a few of the shows. The ones we liked were the documentaries. I liked the one about the legacy of the German fathered children born in Norway after WWII (what a sad story!). They overconcentrated on Anni Frid Lyngstad from ABBA, but still it was an amazing story of what can happen to innocent people in a supposedly "civilised country".
We also saw the short program about the assasination of Dag Hammarskjöld (a real visionary, cut down in his prime).
Another one I enjoyed was the story on Vikingaresa (where a group of people made the crossing from Norway to the Shetlands in a replica viking boat using the viking navigation methods) .
On the sea theme we watched an amazing documentary about this crazy 21 year old Norwegian guy, who had no experience at sea and he took out a very unseaworthy, tiny sailing boat along with 2 hitchikers (neither of whom had sailed before!) and sailed to ANTARCTICA! The American hitchiker has written a book about the voyage that I intend to buy when it is released later this year.
We have a large sailing boat, that is well equipped for long distance sailing and we are both experienced sailors, but still we would baulk at such a voyage.
Last night (again on the sea theme) we watched a half hour program about the fatal Danish sea rescue of the crew of the container ship Faros.
And the other program that we enjoyed (also on a sea theme. Are we slightly obsessed?) was the story on Monday evening about the fishermen of Iceland who go out and work in those dangerous waters. I was amazed thay would risk their lives like that. Fishing season is between December and May - not the sort of weather you want to be out in while so far north!
So thankyou for the tip. I think I've watched more TV this week than in the last 6 months. I'm not much of a tv watcher - just "Rapport" and maybe "Uppdrag granskning" but that's about it.
