I was thinking of how different two places can be! Cities are always different in some ways, in others they are the same. As you have all moved away from what you know since childhood to something that you did not know, I wonder, what did it look like, your hometown? What does your new hometown look like?
This is my hometown of Sollentuna, a suburb to Northern Stockholm. The picture displays the streets known as Malmvägen which is where all the Immigrants live:
and this is going to be my new hometown in five years, Edmonton, Alberta Canada:

That is a little biased comparison! The Sollentuna one is old and shows just apartments while the Edmonton one is such a panoramic shot I am sure if you took such a wide shot of the Stockholm area it would be just as pretty! I love all of my homes...Right now it is hard to know where home is I guess! Glen Ellyn, IL Chicago, IL River Forest, IL Linköping, Sweden Gränna, Sweden Jönköping, Sweden are my "HOME" cities!

Well, I have been looking for a picture of what it looks like where I am living in Sollentuna, which is Malmvägen, and that is what it looks like!! So, I cant change that....but there are of course other pics of Sollentuna, the parts in which I dont live, such as this one of Edsbergs Slott by the lake: I wish I could say Malmvägen looks different today than it did back when that pic was taken, but it really doesnt....

My new home, for the past 12 years is called Lenhovda The town is in the Provance of Småland www.uppvidingehus.se/bilder/dettaupp.jpg ... origins dating back from the Bronze age to Middel ages (wooden church)... and a settlement outside of town dated BC. Modern day Lenhovda has a pop. of 2300 of hard working blue collar workers ... Forestry and a window factory are the main employers. The town is typical looking for small towns in Sweden, with the Svenska Kyrkan in the centre.... We also live in the middle of the world famous glas factories (Örefors, Kosta, Målerås ;D) It's a wonderful place to raise kids & trek to Öland many times out of the year. Granhult's Wooden Church.www.naturproduktion-bh.se/bild-98/980513-4.jpg www.naturproduktion-bh.se/bild-98/980513-5.jpg The city I hale from is Edmonton the capital of the Provance of Alberta. www.travelalberta.com/images/Maps/full-alberta-map.gif Edmonton's origins started with the Hudson Bay Company & Trading Post ... later the Gold Rush & Oil boom. Modern Edmonton pop. one million (or around don't have the stats ) is called "The City of Champions" Our NHL Oilers ... CFL Eskimos ... & Trappers (god I miss baseball ) As the capital of a rich Provance, main employment is either Natural gas, beef, wheat, forestry & mining ... out door sport is played all year round, but true to Canadian style, shopping takes on a new meaning ;D my city also has the worlds largest shopping mall "West Edmonton Mall" and downtown has a underground of shopping where you never have to park your car outside "undergound parkaids" Jump into your heated garage drive downtown ... park undergound ... & poof your shopping. ;D www.cuug.ab.ca:8001/VT/gifs/edmonton.gif [/img] What can I say the both are very hard to compare ... two different worlds!

I know what you mean Dawn, unfortunately it still looks the same as it did back when they first built it. Originally built in 1969 during the milloin project ( miljonprojektet) it had stores and even a funeral parlour underground, in the tunnels that are underneath where the apartments are. Then in 1975 the Sollentuna Mall was built, so the tunnels werent needed anymore, all the stores moved into the mall, but the tunnels are still used by everyone, as they keep you warm in winter and stay nice and cool during the summer ( or protect you from rain). In the beginning it was meant to house everyone who wanted to live there, but through the years a number of Immigrant families started moving in and it has now become synonyms with Immigrant families, since the number of foreign names is larger than the Swedish names, although there are some Swedes living around there of course!
Natooke is right, it is hard to compare because it is such a different world! Something that I have noticed and that I think is a pity is that when I have looked at Canadian cities such as Edmonton or any other online, there is always some nice page to look at, the city homepage, or even more often, there is a short video which shows you what is so good about this particualr place and what it looks like, I havent seen any such videoes for Sweden, which I think is a pity since there are tons of beautiful towns out there!!

Well, my hometown in the U.S. is Grants Pass, Oregon. www.grants pass.com It's still a smaller sized town and the area is famous for the nature. Hiking, skiing, white-water rafting and cycling are all common activities. The summers are incredibly hot but usually rather low in humidity. The winters are wet but not exceptionally cold. I think Sweden has a lot of similarities to southern Oregon, except of course it's missing the mountains! My hometown here in Sweden is Sävedalen. It's located in the Partille kommun JUST across the border of Gothenburg to the north east. www.partille.seI love both, but I do miss the mountains.
