You know it is dangerous to ask such questions with a librarian on the board. I even happen to be sitting at the reference desk as I type!
Popular folk-belief traces the origin of the word "honeymoon" back to the medieval custom of newlywed couples drinking mead (honey) for the first month (moon) of married life to ensure their fertility and to increase the chances that their first child would be a son.
Tobias and I travelled by rental car up to Northern Sweden on "inlandsvägen" and then back down the coast. We stayed in STF Hostels the whole time. It was about 2 months after the wedding and we got to bring our own sheets, sleep in bunk beds, and make our own meals in the shared kitchens. Romantic, huh?
Actually, it was a wonderful adventure and I wouldn't trade it for anything!

We married in my home town in 91 ... & since Peter's parents made the trip over, we all went to Jasper (Canadian Rockies). We spent a week in a modern log cabin w/kitchen & went on daily treks ... white water rafting ... hiking ... eating good food lots of laughter ;D. You know not many can say they had their MIL & FIL on their Honeymoon but I did ;D After nearly 12 years of marriage ... I would still like to go somewhere with Peter for a week ALONE Canadian Rockies.

Anders flew into Albuquerque 5 days before we were married. To start things off well, he was delayed at O'Hare Airport for a total of 10 hours after the flight from Stockholm, so by the time he got to me, he was absolutely shattered, so days 1 and 2 were a loss as far as getting anything done.
We had a home wedding at a friend's house with just my very close friends and a small amount of family.
We were going to the Grand Canyon and Las Vegas, before going down to Phoenix for our interview at the Swedish consulate there for my residency permit.
On our wedding night, we spent most of it sitting in an enormous traffic jam on I-40 between Albuquerque and Grants, New Mexico. There was road construction so things were one lane each way, huge concrete barriers and apparently just ahead of us, a semi had rolled and caught fire, incredible tragedy. Fortunately, we had a cooler in the back of my truck where we had put some sodas on ice and also food from the buffet at our wedding reception, so in the middle of the night, we shared sodas and cold snacks with the Navajo trucker behind us while we waited for the mess to be cleared up.
The Grand Canyon in January is incredible, almost no one else was there. Las Vegas was Las Vegas, interesting for my sociologist husband, but vulgar beyond belief. But we had a good interview in Phoenix, had 5 days to spend together traveling the Southwest, and then I put my brand-new husband on the plane and didn't see him again for two months.

Here´s the place we were married: and a brief history of Edsbergs Slott: Edsbergs gård uppfördes ursprungligen omkring 1630 av proviantmästaren Henrik Olofsson.

Dawn,
The picture both inside and out, look just like the church where my husband's sister got married in Sundsvall! I wish I had a picture to post for you, it is an exact duplicate!

Oh those are lovely pictures Dawn!!! I really like these little churches here in Sweden, they are so pretty When we were married I was so nervous I never even noticed all the people there, all the friends, they were gone from my sight! It wasnt until after, when we turned towards them that I realized they were actually there!! It is really a special feeling when you get that ring on your finger!!

OK ... a little off topic but what the heck eh!This is a little wooden church just outside of town ... where we baptised both our children. Granhult Träkyrkan Here are some paintings that appear on the walls. This last picture isn't from the same church, but from Södra Råda Old Church (sadly burnt down) which is the same age as Granhults. home.swipnet.se/~w-64205/srada.html
