Well, tomorrow my husband makes his attempt on the mountain. The highest point in Albuquerque is Sandia Crest, nearly 11,000 feet above sea level. The climb is from about 6,000 feet to the top, on a fairly narrow, VERY windy road, ending up at the crest, with a wonderful view of Albuq. and the Rio Grande Valley. He's been training like crazy, and the last time, he took off from our house near the university, went all the way through town to the point where the race will start (about 7 miles) and then made the trip to within 4 miles of the crest. He only turned back because it was getting late and he didn't want to hit the rush hour traffic through town, not because he was tired.
I am so proud of his abilities. This is a man who will be 57 the end of August, and he is biking at altitudes that need some real adjustment, since there isn't much oxygen in the air up here.
Then Thursday, we're on the train out of here, permanently. Life is good right now.

Cakes are only as good as what you put in them.

Happy dancing, my honey made it all the way!!!!
He wasn't one of the first. For god's sake, he's nearly 57 and the American Tour de France team works out on this mountain regularly, but he did it in 2.5 hours, which is pretty damned good time for climbing UP from 6,500 to 11,000 feet above sea level.
So, during all that time, I packed, repacked and packed again my trunk and suitcase. Lots of stuff is having to be left behind (can't afford excess baggage charges), but the essentials are in and we'll be out of here in just four more days!

Woo Hoo!!! I'm extra proud of Anders....I hate my bike and have trouble making it up the smallest slope. Can you put some of the unpackables in a box and mail them?

Twenty pounds would cost me $45. I don't REALLY need Jello and cake mixes and some clothes THAT much. I just wanna get home!

Hurray for Anders!
What if you take the jello and cake mixes out of the boxes and just put the little packages into big padded envelopes and mail those? If this does not make sense it is early.
HURRY HOME!
