Or at least I hope so. After nearly a week of being wide awake at 4 a.m. and crashing about 3 p.m., Anders and I both seem to be sleeping most of the night and waking up without that heavily drugged feeling. I guess the jet lag thing must get worse as you age, because neither of us has had it this bad before. On the other hand, we were both gone for over a year, so the New Mexico time zone probably got really entrenched as well.
So we've gone from late spring back to winter. They are predicting snow here in Örebro tomorrow through Saturday! And I now remember why I had two pairs of gloves together, a wool pair to go inside my leather pair. Biking sure chills the hands down fast.
That being said, we have contacted Migrationsverket and talked to the lady who e-mailed us last year and she's okay with my applying from Örebro, but she told us the 500 SEK we'd paid for the first application has been "eaten in administrative costs", which we don't understand since they haven't administered anything while I was gone, but anyway, we need to come up with another 500 SEK for the application, so that's going to have to wait for a week or two.
Once I get back in the system, I can trot on down to Arbetsförmedlingen and start applying for things, although I have to admit, after 18 months of working 7 days a week, 14 hours a day, I'm REALLY enjoying my leisure.
Got to meet Barbara I (bonnie on this site) here yesterday, and just to confuse things, there's Barbara II, who will be moving here on the 18th from Traverse City, Michigan, and then we have Lisa coming in from England as soon as her SO gets a house in the neighborhood. So we'll have gone from having an active English-American community here of about two (me and Nancy), to five almost overnight, AND I know of at least 2 other Americans here in Örebro, who have been here at least 10 years, but they've kind of absorbed themselves into the community. I have my Swedish friends too, but it is nice to have a fellow English speaker around as well.
Well, off to the library. Apparently, it's going to be closing for renovations until mid-July, but they are going to allow us to take out armloads of books till then so ...
