With the 4th of July being tomorrow - for those in Sweden, how much do you celebrate American holidays? Do you have a small quiet observance or a large all out celebration? Who do you share the day with - other Americans or Swedes? Which holidays do you celebrate?

I was going to start a thread wishing you all a Happy 4th of July ;D
In our home we celebrate Canadian Thanksgiving ... blend both customs at Xmas ... & make a special day out of July 1st (we went to Öland) I observe Rememberance Day myself wearing a poppie.

With the 4th of July being tomorrow - for those in Sweden, how much do you celebrate American holidays? Do you have a small quiet observance or a large all out celebration? Who do you share the day with - other Americans or Swedes? Which holidays do you celebrate? Well one year we had a huge party and invited a lot of Americans. It was great! Last year we didn't do anything since we had just gotten back from the States about 10 days before. I was really sad and homesick. I had been wanting a cat and my husband finally gave in, seeing how badly I was taking the day. So at 8 at night we drove over an hour and a half away to get a cat we found online! LOL! This year...well it will be just another day. I thought about having another party, but we can't afford it this year. It feels silly to celebrate with just three people, so it will go by unobserved. Me and the kiddo will probably go into the city to the library. Next year though....I told hubby that I wanted to go home for the 4th. I haven't been home for the 4th since 99. So we have planned our next trip home for July. My 17 year old sister in law will be going with us as well. She has always wanted to go to the States to visit and this summer she will have a part time job and be able to save up the money for a ticket. She is so excited.

I'll be working tomorrow and this weekend. There is a get together of Americans and Swedes in Stockholm this Sat. It's in a park in Södermalm. I won't be able to go though, and that's a bummer. Also I've heard that the US embassy usually does something at Skansen. I'll be wearing my American flag t-shirt to work tomorrow. It's all white, with a small star on the chest, in the star is the flag. It's not overly bold just cool and understated. I bought it here in Sweden 3 years ago. Unfortunately, my boss who spares little expense making derrogatory comments about Americans, will probably make a remark about it, but I won't listen to her. I'm wearing my shirt with pride.

I have to work too but I have a really gawdy pair of denim capris with American flags on them. I think I'll dig those out right now so I can wear them tomorrow. Happy 4th!!!

I have a red shirt with sequined American flags and fireworks all over the front of it.
Bosse saw it one time and shook his head as only a male Swede with an American wife can do.
PLEASE," he said, "don't ever wear that when I am with you!"
