We went into Dalarna yesterday to look at a house to rent. Out in the country, 6 rooms, built in the 1890s, tons of land, gorgeous beyond belief and only 3000 SEK a month for 180 kvm. The problem? No ADSL or broadband, and since I work at home on the net, dial-up modem would be deadly. Anders is going to research options, but man, right now, it doesn't look good. I would nearly KILL for this house. Anybody here living near Ludvika?

Carolyn, I have a really good friend (Faye) living in Ludvika. She is an Australian (surprise, surprise!) and has been there for about 7 years with her Aussie hubby and 2 boys. Like us, she is in the "more mature" age group..... We went and stayed with them in January - it is a stunning part of the country, believe me. She and James run a website for Aussies in Ludvika if you want to take a look. They are a very approachable couple as well, so if you are serious about moving, I can give you her number. In the meantime, check out the Oz Swedes website. Fingers crossed that you get your dream! Marie PS You could always come to Nynäshamn....another great part of Sweden and close to another frriendly Aussie ;D ;D

Marie, you are going to have to PM me with the Oz Swede link again, since my "darling" husband was playing around and managed to wipe out my selection of "Favoriter". We really do want to move from here, as much as we love Örebro as a town, but our neighborhood has seen way too many young kids moving in, and their apparent need to howl like wolves when drunk at 3 a.m. and the incessant booming of the rap music that accompanies this has made it very unpleasant for us old poots. I so much want to move out into the country, but the lack of ADSL or broadband is going to be a critical factor unfortunately.

Have you looked into satellite connections? That would be fast for downloading and slow for sending. Figure that would work for downloading soundfiles and sending text...

Hey, Carolyn, I forgot to mention that the 5 communities in Dalsland are building a broadband network and are going to have it available to the general public. The main net should be done by the 1st of the year and they will begin building out to the more remote areas of the kommuns. So, you should look into heading this way! ;D
