Okay, we're looking for a new computer.
Anders is a Dell man, no matter what, no matter how much more expensive.
I've always had HP's and like them.
The most common brands here seem to be Dell, Packard Bell (any relation to HP?) and we're seeing a lot of a Fujitsu Siemons too.
Anders likes Dell because he says they are good when you need to call up somebody for problems.
Myself, other than needing the hard drive totally reformatted several times on Anders' computer (thanks, Sandy!), I've just never had a lot of problems with any computer I've had (that Anders hasn't touched and downloaded crap on).
This is going to be MY computer basically for my business. So I have some questions.
Any problems with buying from, say, El Giganten and then needing service?
What is a "Firewire"? I see this in a LOT of the ads. Firewall, I understand, Firewire, no clue.
I definitely need a CD burner/player, which seems to be standard nowadays. Other than that, I'm pretty flexible, but looking to pay in the neighborhood of 10,000 to 12,000 SEK.

I have had 3 Dells and I like them too. Good service you get from Dell. You do pay a litle more for the PC though.
Firewire is one route via which you pass data from one device or peripheral to the computer and vice versa. For instance, connecting a digital camera, mobile phone, printer, etc. to the PC. The old computers used serial or parallel connections. Then the much faster USB replaced it. Now the next generation is Firewire. It's "like" USB but as much as 30 times faster than USB.
Good luck.

Am I the only person out here that only has one computer for the whole family? Debbie's household apparently has several, one of which can run a large third world country, I know someone else who has side-by-side computers. I guess I'd better get with the program and buy at LEAST one more. ;D

Um, right now we have 5 computers connected to our home network and have had up to 9 at one time. ;D It's fun! ;D My husband and I, on rare occasions, even use MSN Messenger to "talk" to each other when he is in the kitchen and I am in the living room. It beats yelling through the house! edited because I have forgotten how to spell!

Carolyn, We have 2 computers. We have a desk-top and a lap-top that we run on a network. We have a router set up so we can BOTH be on-line at the same time. I use the desk-top, but my Swede prefers to surf from the comfort of his sofa! He also MSN messages me if he needs a coffee ;D

My husband and I: We have 2 computers for personal use, one used as a server and a lap-top we travel with (has CD burner n everything). So 4 in all. I can't imagine having to wait to use the PC and besides my husband does too many crazy things on his computer so it's safer this way having out own

When I moved here Anders had 5 computers. Now we have two. He has a stationary one, I a laptop. I tried convincing him to get rid of the others by arguing, cajoling, saying that we needed to get rid of them for lack of space etc... finally when I was able to convince him that I was happier (read hornier) without excess clutter ( hey I'm a Virgo, we like order) he found homes with other people for his 3 other computers. ;D

We are now officially a two-computer family. We got my new Dell last Thursday and got it all set up, but it took until today to get a desk set up in the bedroom for the old computer, buy the router and cable and get all that stuff taken care of, PLUS at least an hour to figure out instructions and get the two computers connected up to ADSL, but at last, we are there. ;D ;D ;D
