Here is an article about how the Girl Scouts are trying to re-vamp and recruit new girls. story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=519&ncid=519&e=16&u=/ap/20031015/ap_on_re_us/hip_girl_scouts_3Mall scouting, facials, manicures are apparently on the list of things that 12 year olds now expect... what happened?! When I was in Brownies and the Scouts we went camping, learned how to make things on our own, earned badges in things that mattered. What the heck is the Scouts about now? I'm not so old (32) so it isn't that long ago that I participated in the GS. I think it's sad that it has turned this way. I understand that the GS want to attract a new generation, but I don't think that the Scouts were founded so that girls could learn how to get a manicure at a mall. Do you? I'd like to hear comments.

That's just pathetic. They can learn all that crap without any help, most of them are painted like tarts by the time they're 10 anyway. What's next, merit badges in shopping?
I was a scout till I was a teen-ager, had a sash FULL of great badges and LOVED it.

Cakes are only as good as what you put in them.

I was a counsellor att GS camp outside of GR, Michigan!! I taught horseback riding. Make-up was definately NOT a merit badge back then!

I made it all the way up to a Senior GS. I remember 1st Aid training and camping for a week in Primative where we even dug our own toilet holes. Dug a bean pit and everything! Too bad that it is changing...
