Guess what!?! My darling has now recieved recidency in Sweden! Even though they told us, both at the migration board and at the embassy in London, that the waiting time would be 8-9 months, the dicision was made yesterday morning, only after 6-7 weeks!!!
I'm SO happy! And it seems it won't be long before he can join me in Stockholm. He's only got to give one week's notice, and since he's only been in London about a year (he's Australian), he doesn't have a lot of stuff to sort out before leaving and not a lot of packing to do.
Now we will finally be able to try out "everyday life" and see what it's like living together. Hopefully, it will be as good as I think it will.
Many happy thoughts from ANNA

All right, Anna, I am so glad for you that the wait wasn't longer. Man, when you hear those words "it'll take 12 months", you just feel like going crazy, but fortunately, I really do believe the people at Migrationsverket have no idea themselves and just pull out a number to tell people to shut them up.
So get some space organized in your apartment or house so he can have HIS space too and look forward to having your sweetheart for these longer, greyer fall and winter nights!

Anna, That's wonderful news! I bet you can't wait! And tell him that the next pub night for Aussies in Stockholm is Thursday, November 6th from 6pm onwards at The Dancin DingoIt's on Skånegatan 59 in Söder (t-bana: Medborgaplatsen) Yes, there are a lot of adjustments to make when moving to a new place and a new relationship, but if you work at it together, it will work out. Good luck! And a warm welcome to your guy. The Australian Ambassador, Richard Rowe, will also be dropping in to say hello that evening.

Hey how great for the both of you! I agree with Carolyn that sometimes they tell people longer times to stop them from calling and asking. I was told that it would take around 6 months, and it took 4.5 instead. I do know others that were told "a couple months" and it took more than 6. Is it possible that he was approved faster because he was living in another EU country, even if he is an Australian citizen. It could have something to do with his short wait time. Isn't it great? And you thought you'd have to wait for months...

A question to Aussie, Is the get together for only Australian citizens, or are people that have been there and think that it's a real nifty country welcome? ;D I promise I wouldn't try to immitate an accent, I'd just drink my Victoria Bitter (if they have that) and speak my Californian/American way. hee hee

Sabeine,
Everyone is welcome, of course! We aren't "exclusive" at all.
If you want, you could pop along to the Girls' Night next Thursday, October 23rd. at 7pm. I'm going to be there (but don't let that put you off ;D)
It's at the same place. We had a Girls' night in August and 20 girls came along from 5 different countries. We always have a good time, so you (or anyone else) is very welcome!
Edited to add: you can book for the night by contacting the co-ordinator Nicole Williams at nicoleinsweden@hotmail.com

God, that sounds like SO much fun, but I guess I'd have to do quite a bit of planning. Those evening meetings mess with the last bus back to Örebro and even the last train is pretty early.

Aussie: Lambi ? ? ? You'll let her sleep with the toilet paper? AnnaNy: Congrats on getting your man here so quickly! Time to make room in those closets.

Thank god Lambi lacks opposable thumbs, 'cause if she clicked in here on her own and read that, she'd be really annoyed!

Debbie, You crack me up! THIS is Lambi! (also note she obediently stays off the kitchen table!) Many people ask if she is named after toilet paper. The kids named her after the lamb used in the ads for the toilet paper. And sometimes she does give us the sh*ts ;D

I also thought of the toilet paper when you said her name. After looking at her picture I can understand why the kids would name her after the lamb in the commercials. Though she's a dog she does look sort of "lamb like". What a cutie.
