Help, I signed up with Amazon.uk and wanted to order some stuff. They say I cannot order, and I'm wondering if this is because the only "credit" card I have is my debit card with Visa logo from a U.S. bank but I want the stuff delivered to me in Sweden. It's an active account with quite a bit of money in it, but I'm assuming it's because it's a US card, that's why I can't order. If anybody else here is ordering through them, what is the problem, any idea? They really have some great prices, even with the shipping, and I'm frustrated.

Hmmm, I haven't had a problem ordering from them, but I think I used my Swedish card, not my US one. Both are debit cards with the VISA logo. Your billing address must be the address of the card, while the shipping address will be here. Try sending a note to their customer service and see what they say.

They said that because it's a "dollar" card on a US account, that I need to order through amazon.com in the States, thus assuring that even though I ship it to me here, I end up paying the 25% duty to Tullverket.
But thanks to debbie, I got things taken care of anyway, and I guess I need to go to the bank and talk to them about getting a debit card here. Foreningssparbanken (our bank) has said before that I need to be working to get a debit card, not even a credit card, but I've heard that Nordea or Handelsbanken are a bit different, so maybe it's time to change banks.

We bank with SEB. I opened an account (with no money!!) when I first moved here to get an id card. Later I got a debit card. I could use it to get money from a teller machine but not in stores. Later, even though I'm still considered a temp, they let me change that to a regular card. I've used it to order things from the UK and the states with no problems.

Have you filed a tax return with Skattemyndigheten yet, Pam? So that they see you are employed and have an income?
