If it's not hard enough raising kids today on us Parents ... let alone in a foreign country (at times) Yesterday we got from our son's school a permission slip ... asking if we (parents, guardians) if we would either agree to allow ... yes or no! Your child's picture & information about student on the school's Website. This is of course frivilligt.
According to "Personuppgiftslagen" ... or PuL. (1998-10-24) and Barn och Utbilding of our kommun they will not place on the site all or private info of student e.g. personnummer etc. but still we find it's still too much info for a minor to be exposed to & have opted NOT ... so heads up
What I mean is even though we have a good standard of Dialogue at our school, not all things that are being done are made aware of ... as alot of ways (for me as a foreigner) have been done this way for many years.

That's very strange that they would do that. I could understand maybe posting a class photo of the whole group, but not posting each child's personal information. I think in today's age that is irresponsible of the school to do that. I'm glad they allow the parents to opt out of it though. Even if your family is in a safe small town, you don't know who would access that site. Pedophiles know no boundaries.

That makes me shudder! Even the small towns aren't completely safe. Over the last month we've had burglaries, car thefts and a murder. No way would I want my child's info broadcast for anyone and everyone to see. I know things are done differently in Sweden but crime is catching up to the rest of the world and people are going to have to learn to protect themselves. The police sure aren't going to do it.

I moved from Oregon to Kiruna in Sept. 2001. I think I'm adjusted. Sorta.

Were they actually wanting to post personal information and photos of all the students? Like a directory or something? Or was this just a "cover your butt" thing for their school website that might have pictures of class activities, etc?
When I was teaching high school in the US I was the newspaper advisor and we had to send out permission slips to all the parents so we could use student info in the school newspaper. We joined forces with the yearbook team and the webmasters, so it was an all-encompassing permission slip.
