I have reconnected with my friend Hannah whom I met here in Sweden a week after arriving.
She worked at the first hotel I worked out here, and when Anders took me by the hotel to see what it looked like, this lady Hannah was the first one to really come up to me and talk to me. Many others introduced themselves, but then they went their separate ways working. Hannah showed me around, and asked me where I was from, how come I moved to Sweden, and told me "I'd love to speak English with you, if that's okay." She had been in New Zealand for 6 months some years ago and didn't want to lose her good English. She was the first person to invite me to a party, to have me over for dinner, and to really try to be my friend.
Since this past January when my mom became hospitalized I've fallen away from a lot of things, including sadly Hannah. It wasn't intended like this, it's just that she was working on the weekends when I was off, and vice versa, then many other things happened in my life where I just wanted to be alone. Hannah also started to date a man that I didn't like too much. I never told her this, but it made me see her less often. They have since broke up when she realized for herself that he was not the right one. Yesterday she calls me and asks what I am doing in two weeks. I just happened to be off that weekend, and it is her birthday. She's having a party, and she wanted me to come. She told me not to bring anything just myself, she said, "I just want to see YOU".
I'm so glad she called. I was really missing her but I was nervous to call since I hadn't spoken with her since this past summer and I felt like a real heel. I thought she would be angry that I had ignored her for so many months. Instead she said that I needed my time to deal with my mom, my cousin passing, and my cat etc... she's a real friend, one who understands, and does not judge.
So there's a party in 2 weeks, this gives me another reason to keep up with the Winter Challenge.
