Can they mix well together? We bought an artificial tree last year at an after Xmas sale. It's a lovely artificial Douglas Fir. We also have two cats, one of which is super curious. I could see her trying to run up the tree and causing it to fall over. She would also probably try to knock off the ornaments to play with them. Does anyone have cats, and also managed to have a tree? What did you do? Did you use a cat repellent spray on the tree?

Wire it. We used to set two eye bolts on the walls and then run a wire from the tree to each one. The cats may go up the tree, but with the cross-wiring, it should stay up. Don't know how glass ornaments will fare though. I hate the spray myself, smells like cat piss, I think.

I've been told that cat's dislike walking on foil.
This person said that her cats used to knock over her trees or bat her ornaments until she put foil down under the tree. It's something about the crinkly texture and sound... so it might work even under a thin tree skirt, I'm not sure.
There are colored foils if you don't want it to look too strange ... in any case it has to be better than spraying the tree in cat pee hehe

My old stand-by is the water gun. The cats don't know exactly what hits them, only that they don't like it and it has something to do with the shiny tree. It doesn't hurt them (unless you spray the plug! ), and you don't have to scream at them. After a few direct hits they usually leave the tree alone. Also, if you put a few drops of pine or cedar oil in with the water your cats, ummm TREE will smell like a real Christmas tree.
