For those of you who have been over here for awhile and actually have a job, what have you been doing regarding filing with the IRS? Have you filed and if so, why? Have you not filed and any particular reasons for that?
I'm in kind of a weird position here, since I'll be earning income paid in dollars from a U.S. company BUT living permanently in Sweden, registering as an enskild firma and paying a chunk of taxes here, but I'm wondering just how long it might be before they figure this out in the States and what they might do if I don't file, other than it could really screw things up if I wanted to go back (which I don't).
Anybody know a good US tax attorney in Sweden I could talk to?

I think your situation is different Carolyn. You are earning US dollars correct? I think you may be accountable for some taxes to the US. If one has a job here in Sweden but earns their income from within this country, and it is under a certain amount, one does not pay taxes to the US government. We already pay to the Swedish government after all. I was told that one must file even if one is not working, you just put "0" in the columns.
I have stated my income here from working, though it never went over a limit, so I did not pay taxes towards the US, only sent in the paperwork.
