I posted this yesterday in the Aussie forum and there are a few of us going on the Saturday, so I thought I'd ask here and see if anyone was interested in going. There is a trade fair and exhibition for women interested in starting their own business here in Sweden. It will be held at: World Trade Center Stockholm Klarabergsviadukten 70/Kungsbron 1 on Friday and Saturday April 16-17 You can find out more details at the website for Kvinna - Starta Eget.

I checked out the site. Looks like the seminar will be in Swedish. I'm interested but my brain can't quickly process so much new information in Swedish!

Pam (and Carolyn),
If you are not so confident in Swedish, maybe this one would appeal to you more. I'm on the Verbal Ease mailing list and got it late tonight (after I'd posted about this one). It is in English and may give you more information than the mässan, though it does cost 500SEK.
The ‘Start Your Own Business’ workshop will provide you with accurate and current information to help you understand the process to start your own business.
Date : Saturday, May 15, 2004
Time : 10am - 2:00pm
Place : Kunskapsnätet School, Fridhemsgatan 9, 4tr. Fridhemsplan.
Cost : SEK 500
Speaker: Ewa Nielsen, Tax and Business Consultant PricewaterhouseCooper
Participants : English speakers wishing to start their own business.
RSVP: Yvonne Crooks, e-mail verbalease@pahugget.se
Participants are responsible for providing their own refreshments, lunch, paper and pens, etc.
Morning Session
1. Choosing a Business Entity – Participants will be introduced to the three (3) main business structures in Sweden – Enskild Firma; Handelsbolag and Aktiebolag - and the requirements for establishing each of these structures.
2. The workshop will inform about the pros and cons of each business structure by looking at the restrictions, requirements, and flexibilities.
Afternoon Session
3. The second half of the workshop will focus on the creation of an ‘Enskild Firma’ (Sole Proprietorship) taking into account such basics as where to get an application and registration of the business, to identifying the more complex issues such as taxes, salaries, and other areas that are best addressed by qualified professionals.
4. Participants will leave the workshop with an increased understanding of the legal, tax and moral expectations, as well as the responsibilities that come with being a business owner in Sweden. In addition, each participant will leave the workshop with a correctly completed ‘Enskild Firma’ application to serve as a guideline for future use.
No refunds after May 3. Seating limited. Questions? Email verbalease@pahugget.se Seminar hosted by Verbal Ease Sweden.

I really want to go to the one in English. I hope to talk my husband into going to it with me. It's something we've been talking about for a couple of years.

Just made reservations for Anders and myself! Thanks, Aussie, for the tip!
Oh, and I'm still going to go to the trade fair, my Swedish is good enough, I think.
