I start school today at 1:00pm. It's the Barn och Fritids program and it will last a year. Class will normally start at 8:30am but today it starts later for some reason. I'm a bit nervous since I've never been to this school before and don't know anyone that goes there. I hope I'll like this program and that the teacher/s will be good. I feel like a kid going to kindergarten for the first time. Remember that? I was nervous! Off the subject,... does anyone remember those tv ads for the chain store "Staples"? It's the one where the dad is walking through Staples all happy and skipping throwing school supplies into the cart. Then an announcer says, "It's that time again...they're going ba-ack, back to school" then they show the children behind him and they look pissed off and the dad is skipping through the aisles. The music playing in the background is the holiday tune "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year"! I died laughing the first time I saw that commerical. Does anyone remember it? Funny!

I'm a student. It's an adult education school for people who are switching careers, or for those who want to expand their degrees. It is private, but thankfully I'm not paying for it. They have agreements in Sweden that if there is a course or program that you are interested in, if that is not available in your home kommun then you can go to another kommun that offers it. Your home kommun pays for it, but you have to be approved through your home kommun. I worked at a day care facility many years ago full time and then part time when I started college. I majored in something totally different and ended up working in something not even in my major. After moving here I have been in school part time, then worked full time, then school full time, then worked part time. Now I have decided I want to go back into Child Development and in order to work in this field here I have to go through this year program. So it's back to school for me! I'm nervous and excited, did I mention nervous??

Well school today went fairly well. It is a distance for me to get there. First a bus ride, then a train ride. All in all though I think it will be good. We have two teachers for this program though only one was there today. The other had a sick child. The teacher we did meet seemed patient and kind and she gave me a good impression. We will be going to school full time 450 points. We will only meet in the classroom W,TH,F though. M, and TUES is for individual study which means lots of homework. I don't expect this program to be easy but then again I didn't expect it to be. I am glad for the challenge.
Unfortunately we had a very rude lady in our class. I felt truly sorry for the teacher since every thing the teacher said this woman had a comment for. I was amazed that the teacher kept her cool, I wanted to slap this lady. She commented on everything, and I mean everything. Nothing was good for her. The course material was crap, the books the teacher selected were crap, our start time was crap.... you get the point. What's worse is that this lady didn't keep it to herself she had to blurt it out in the middle of class. Not to mention she made several "bus stop" sounds, and snorts when the teacher would say something. I kept wondering the whole time what this woman's problem was. I mean she REALLY walked in with one big chip on her shoulder. Yeech! I hope I don't end up going any group work or discussions with that woman, what a disaster that could be.
Other than the interuption sitting next to me, I think the teacher was nice, the material is good and I am happy to have started.

Debbie has been back for a week---- and the students join tomorrow for roll call. We begin real classes on Wednesday. Sabeine...Look at the commute as a blessing to work in an enviornment with limited interruptions. It is the only way I stay sane through my bus-train-bus commute of 2 hours one way. Did you get a new box of pencils to start school? I did.

Wow, Debbie you commute 2 hours one way?! I shouldn't complain then.
I didn't get a box of new pencils. I use those mechanical pencils so I only needed to get the lead refills. I did get new notebooks, and a binder though.
When do most kids go back to school here? Is it the same day or is it varied?

I use mechanical pencils most of the time too, but I have to have a new box of pencils when school starts again.
The time for starting schools varies widely I noticed in Metro last week. Most of the schools in Malmö began today or yesterday. The schools in Kristianstad begin 23 August.
Edited because I cannot type any longer. Watch it Carolyn!
