We are planning our sailing vacation - finally.
Today, we are packing to sleep two nights in our boat. We have to get our kids ready and primed for a longer trip. We have PSP's to help them with their boredom on the longer hauls. They can play games, watch movies, or see TV programs we "taped" for them on these little playstation portables- I hope it is enough to keep them from each others throats.
They actually get along really well, but sometimes when they fight, they really fight. I don't really want to be on a small boat with a prepubescent daughter fighting with her two younger brothers, too close quarters and I'll go balistic. I'm sure it'll be fine.
The first time we were due to sail to Stockholm, I took them home right before we were going to cast off. They were so sad they couldn't even apologize. I told them we could talk in the morning after I calmed down. In the morning we talked, they understood, we went back to the boat and had a two week vacation without ONE fight! Now this will be the true test to see if they remember my fury from two years ago! I hope they remember our rule of thumb, we talk it out instead of yell and if Mommy is happy everyone is happy. (I generally have a long fuse, but sometimes it doesn't take much and being on a confined boat is one of those more difficult fuse situations for everyone!)
We start off small, everyone has a great time and wants to go for a longer trip. Or so we hope!
Cross your fingers, hold your thumbs that our plan works. My husband is taking off 6 weeks so we can make up for not sailing last year. We really need a relaxing vacation.
I still don't know how to sail. We'll see if I figure it out this year....
