Avatar question

I have a jpg pic on my desktop. How do I get it to the avatar line in my profile so I can add it? Also how do I change the size? I read below to right click on it and get the dimensions?

Also when I tried to add my MSN nickname it wouldnt put it in my profile. Could that be because it is the same name I use here? Thanks!

Any picture you add has to be hosted already on the web. For instance if you have a picture uploaded on a webpage somewhere else you can link to that.
