I washed some flatware in the dishwasher and now for some reason on two of the knives there are small dots of rust. Is there some way to remove them? I don't understand how this happened they are supposed to be dishwasher safe.

Hi Sabeine, How annoying for you, especially when they specify that it is dishwasher safe. I have had a problem with rust stains on knives as well on the boat. These are supposed to be stainless steel and therefore rustproof! What I've found the most effective thing was to use metal cleaner on the stains - just rub it in, leave it to dry then polish it off with a soft cloth. I use the one called Häxan. You can buy it easily at the supermarket. Other things that also work are to leave the blade stuck in a raw onion (I guess the juice cleans it) but that's not always practical. I think with dishwashers, it is important to take out the knives as soon as the cycle is completed to avoid rust developing. It seems to thrive in dampness, and where the metal surfaces touch each other - even if they are marked "dishwasher safe".
