Hi everyone! Just wanna say on January 7th I started the Atkins diet (low carb). Since then I have lost 13 lbs and continue losing on this way of life/eating. I also work out with Richard Simmons and Leslie Sansone tapes. They are so much fun! I ordered the newest Atkins book on www.adlibris.se really cheap and got it within 1½ weeks. Take care, Heather 253-240-135 lbs

We've been reading about the Atkins Diet and I got the book as well. Anders loves the idea (yeah, right, like HE needs to lose anything!). I think the only place I'd really have problems is with my beloved mashed potatoes and also rice.

It's a really wonderful way to eat and lose weight I am so pleased - since nothing else worked. My father recommended it to me since I think he is going to do it once he see's how well I'm doing. I hope to lose all my weight by this time 2004. We've been reading about the Atkins Diet and I got the book as well. Anders loves the idea (yeah, right, like HE needs to lose anything!). I think the only place I'd really have problems is with my beloved mashed potatoes and also rice.

If you visit www.atkinscenter.com , you can read about this Low Carbohydrate Diet called Atkins. Hope that helps! I know they have an "About" section and "How to do" section.

The hard part about the Atkins diet is not sticking to it, because most people apparently feel very full and satisfied with the meals offered, BUT for me, having to cut way down on two items I really love, POTATOES AND RICE, would be hard. I don't have a problem with sweets, that's never been my real downfall. I'm just very, very fond of gravies (with starch for thickening, unfortunately) and rice or potatoes to sop it up. Still, I think once we get settled at home again, we will both go on this diet for a few months to kind of give ME especially a jump-start to losing this horrid stomach that's developed while I've been in the States. I look like I'm about 6 months pregnant.

I don't have any urge for any bread, pasta, rice, chocolate, real sugar, regular coffee/tea (i use decaf)... and it only took me a few days after Dec 26th to get used to that. It's mostly psychological. Good luck! I plan on being under 200 lbs by late spring if not even around 180 by summer. ~Heather

Good luck to you gals! I know several people who are on the Atkins diet and are doing great, and some who have been on it for over a year or more and "maintaining". I know how hard it was for some as well, but they hung in there with only minor slips. So you go !! I applaud you. ;D My vice, I never smoked until I went to Sweden 7-8 years ago, then I started (dumb, dumb, dumb) because my SO was. After a couple attempts at quitting thereafter (the longest 11 months stopped and then I started again--more dumb, dumb, dumb and dumber) now I'm in the stopping "program" again. So I'm with you in "healthy spirit". Hanging in there ! Linda

Some authorities say that quitting smoking is worse than quitting a heroin addiction, so good luck to you, Linda.
Nice thing is, if you quit, within a 3 year period, your lung tissue will be restored to a lovely baby pink again, instead of that nasty old tarry color.

I hope that is so for my mom's case. (This September will be her 5th year of remission with her Leukemia, so she will be 'cancer-free'.) My mom smoked from when she was 18 'til the day she got diagnosed with Leukemia. She got Leukemia thru the skin disease Lupus (12% of all lupus patients can get leukemia.). Anyhow, she has astma since she got leukemia, and on top of that she has had Type 2 Diabetes for a while as well. Anyhow, I hope her lungs have started to turn pink again so they can heal properly... so her astma gets better and she stops getting fluid or clots in her lungs.

Heather,
I'm also doing Atkins. I have done it on and off for years. I say on and off because sometimes I will go somewhere and have high carb foods (like a dinner party) but then the next day go back to keeping my carbs in check.
It works well for me.
Keep it up, you sound like you are really doing great.
